Uh... hi? I'm an Asian teenage guy who's trying to grow out my hair.
I'm not going to say too many details about myself since I DO go to a private school -- I have seen people getting busted for having hair a quarter inch too long. (OOPS!!!) On the other hand, I still haven't been caught yet, and I probably won't for the rest of high school.
The length shown in the picture was about 3 months ago; it was just falling on the shoulders then. (I had my last buzzcut in July, and I got another cut in October. That probably didn't take too much off the tail, but you could easily see the asymmetry in the image. The left bangs are about half an inch longer than the right ones and it formed an awkward look.) -- that equates to around 3/4 inch a month if my math is accurate. Currently, I have around 2 inches that falls nicely onto my sweatshirt, but uh... yeah.
I've also gotten some interesting comments. But my favorite so far has come from a girl who probably likes me: "I am going to hunt you down with a knife... (to cut your hair of course)." I like her and know that she probably won't do anything to me, but it still makes me uneasy.
Good luck
With regards to length and not getting caught, you will be able to get away with it if you slick it back with plenty of gel. Whatever you do, do not allow the hair to hang down as that's when long hair shows its real length.
