Hey there guys, hope you're all having a great day! I have a question regarding sleeping. I'm almost at 9 months growth now and my hair is in the later phase of the awkward stage. It's not long enough to tie up when sleeping, but it's also long enough to bother me sometimes. What is a good strategy to sleep peacefully while the hair is growing out and going all crazy?
My hair is halfway down my back and I just sleep with it loose and then deal with having to comb it in the morning. When it's still too short to tie back, that's all you can do.
I don't like sleeping with a ponytail because it's more awkward to lie on, and I have a LOT of hair lol.
I have to agree with this. Sleeping with it loose on an ordinary cotton pillow case has never done my hair any harm.
I rather think that you are all complicating this far to much. However everyone has their own routine but no one should read this thread and think that there is on;y one way to sleep, that is nonsense.
(For once?) I agree with UK: this is a total non-issue for me. I guess I don't move that much and my hair doesnt' tend to tangle that much... I'm only at clavicle length, though, so I'll let y'all know if it becomes an issue in a few inches' time :)
Sup Ian! Now that you are in shoulder+ length (I think), it would be a good idea to invest in a silk or satin pillow cover. You can find them cheap in Amazon. Sleeping with a satin or silk pillow case adds a lot of gentleness to your hair, assuming you move a lot. Well, I move a lot in my sleep and all my girlfriends suggested I make an investment on it, and sure enough, they were right!
I find that sleeping with such a cover decreases hair shedding to no hair shedding on my pillow the next day I wake up compared to the usual cotton fabric. As my hair gets longer I'm thinking of upgrading to a king size, and then when my hair gets super long I'll add satin sheets. No wonder why they have these materials, not just for the luxury and feel, but for the practicality of how good and gentle it is for your hair.
I hope this helps!
Peace,
rowie
P.S I would not suggest tying up your hair until your hair is long enough to do braids, stick with the silk or satin pillow case for now. If your hair is long enough, you can make a little bun on top of your head (I'm embarrassed to tell you what it is called, ok... it's called a ballerina bun!hahahahahaha It's called that way because women would do this hair style in ballet, but it can be a practical good sleep do if you hair is long enough, but not too long like belt length, but I suppose you can do a sock bun on top of your head when you reach waist and beyond)
Oh another suggestion by one of my girlfriend is a silk bonnet. I told her I'd look silly in it, and that is why I stuck with the silk pillow covers. She told me if I ever reach classic length (butt length) and beyond, then the sleep silk bonnet is the way to go. According to her, she likes it in that she does not have to drape her hair over the back of the bed because she's afraid that spiders could climb up her hair. LOL
OK
peace out man,
rowie
Whoa! I like it! In addition to satin pillowcases and satin sheets, you could go all out and wear satin PJs too. You wouldn't even have to climb out of bed in the morning. You'd just slide out! :)
No wonder some people say long hair is sexy!

Damon, you are too funny. It is sexy when you think about it. I have no need for PJ's, but the thought of me slipping out of bed with satin sheets cracks me up. Who needs to roll out the slip and slide on the grass when you can have instant slip and slide on the bed with satin or silk sheets. hahahaha
Dorag FTW!
you brought up a great question! i know how you feel, it's also been bothering me a lot (especially when you sleep on your side)
this a great topic that will go in my blog after i do some research.

Hey great site! I just spent a few min on it and I must say I really like it.
thanks! i'll get back to you when i write the article.
Topically & ironically I bought my 1st set of satin pillow-cases only 2 days ago = to reduce knotts :) CEM.
Being in the awkward stage also, my hair sometimes annoys me at night when I'm sleeping. It mainly bothers me in warm weather, not so much in cooler weather. I've taken to combing it all up to the top of my head and tying it in a top knot. Some of the hair is too short to reach the top knot, and it falls back down, but overall it's more comfortable than sleeping with it loose. The top knot looks really dorky, but it makes me sleep easier, and protects my hair while I sleep as well.
I have super soft cotton pillowcases, and almost never see any loose hairs on the cases.

That's basically what I did. You end up looking like a pineapple, but if it means you get a better night's sleep, it's worth it.
