My next birthday I will be fifty, just wondering how many old guys have long hair & how many cut it as they get holder?
Hi James
love the hair..it suits you totally!
I am 42 and growing my hair out for the first time...so you are an inspiration to me...my thoughts are that you know who you are as a person as you get older and realise that it doesn't matter what others think about you...as long as you are happy...which YOU obviously are with your cool long hair.
Cheers for the post..it really helps me on my journey dude

Hi James, I'm 69 next birthday, with no intention of cutting!
I am 60 and reduced my length a couple of years ago as the terminal length shrank to about mid back and half of that looked ratty. So I went to a shorter, styled long hair cut. I never want to go back to short (a regular cut).
There is no doubt may people cut their hair as they get older though that really starts at 20+ as they think they need to do so to get jobs etc. Thereafter a corporate conformity creeps in which they keep for the rest of their lives.
I am sixty and occupy a senior corporate position but probably the exception and undoubtedly some will talk disapprovingly behind my back.
You have great looking hair, very much like the length like it that you have it long and loose. I keep my hair pretty short because of work kinda work in a managenment position in a healthcare company,,many older guys look great with long hair.
Take care,,,Tom
Hi James,
That's great that you will be 50 and still have long hair.I will be turning 50 in another month and have no intentions of cutting it.What can I say, I grew my hair out in my early 20s and never had it short since:)With that said I intend to remain a long hair as long as I'm on this planet!lolCheers

WOW Mark - your hair is striking & amazing ... a real head turner - I love it !!! ... 'Henna' = dare I try it ;P ... hehe ... my philosophy on ageing is that it is a privilege: especially when the alternative is to die young ... this current long hair journey, for me, is my fifth attempt in my life: ( all others failed at various stages, for various reasons ) ... but like u my resolve now is unshakable ... I'm finally listening to my inner voice ! cheers Cem. :O)
I turned 60 this last August and my hair is mid-back length. Have no plans on cutting it.
Steve
Hi James - its funny but the older guys get the more inclined they are to grow it - men get sick of conforming, being the bread-winner, always providing for the seething masses, always doing the right thing ... call it mid-life crisis, breaking the shackles that bind ... I just find men over 40 tend to grow or @ least attempt long hair ... I'm generalizing of course ... we still are a minority & probably will always be ... but I feel we are better off for it ... I'm 46 btw ... thanx for your query CEM. :O)
James,
I'll be 60 on my next Birthday and don't plan on cutting my hair!
peace, jonalbear
This long haired hippie is 57 years old, will keep his hair
long for as long as i'm 1. still alive 2. have hair to grow.
As far as long hair only being for women remember my observation that many women now have hair that is shorter than a number of
long haired men.
At 57 I don't care what others think, i'll wear my hair the way
i want to and I'll wear the clothes i want to. If someone
doesn't like it they can go jump off the roof.
65 and will always be growin' the mane!
50 isn't old if you're a longhair!
I started growing in earnest at 39, and I am now 57, with no trims in between.
I am 60, will be 61 in may. I now have hair at mid back length, and I feel "at home" Have had long hair since the mid 60s. though to be truthful, it was much shorter than mid back for many years, still considered "long" by the standards of the time, though.
Hi James,
First of all, what a great mane, and cheers to you in keeping it long!
as for me, I will be celebrating my 59th birthday in August, and have no plans of cutting mine.
Keep it growing,
David
Hi James,
Thanks for posting this thread, and that's a really fine pic of yourself & your wonderful hair -- and last but not least, WELCOME to MLHH!!!
I'm 58 right now, turning 59 in July. As many folks here have already heard my story, I'll give a brief summary of my hair history:
- forced to keep my hair short all during childhood and into my teens, I didn't even experience "long-ISH" hair until after I left my dad's house at age 18
- it wasn't until my 40th birthday that my hair finally got long enough to put all back into a ponytail (I had jobs with hair length restrictions prior to my being in my late 30s)
- other than making a very foolish decision to impulsively cut my hair back to short in Y2K, I've had looooong hair ever since -- and plan on keeping it that way!!
If you click on my avatar pic in the corner, it will take you to my silly website (including a special Hair Page). Thanks to Bill Choisser who helped me with all the technical stuff (as well as those great hair photos), you can read a lot of my goofy hair thoughts, as well as see pics of me from '04... My current length is now around my belt, which seems to be terminal-length; but hey, I'm not complaining... just keep trying to grow it looooonger (LOL)!!

You can add me to the list of guys 50+ (I'm 52 now)that have long hair. For years I've bounced between shorter styles (never really short)and longer styles (barely touching the shoulder) but two years ago I decided to just let it grow for a while. I can't say for sure where this journey will end, though I can say for sure I'm not planning on ever going back to a short style.

I am almost fifty (in september); i think let my hair grow the longest that it will be possible.
Patrick
I'm 54, and have had longish hair since I was 15 and grew it out seriously at 23. Not going to ever cut it short.
Well done JohnB32, I'm not too far behaind you at 69 next birthday! great to see you here.
This was the very last photo taken of how long my hair was in the Fall of 2008 when I was 60+ years of age. Later on it was demolished by a Salon. Several months ater that emergency surgery took a heavy toll. Alas, I tried to hold on to it for 9 months afterwards but it kept falling out anyway so I cut it. There was nothing left worth saving. (My reason for the cut.)

Hi Justin = I had a tear in my eye reading your post = mega-hugs to you = will you try & grow it back now ? ... all the best CEM.
