OMG - Illusion = thank you - I'm astounded by that article - it made me cry: ( such was its impact ) !!! ... thanx again cheers Cem.
Why would a short haired man worse sensory information than a long haired one. Sounds like esp if you ask me. I did read the article. Is there any real scientific data backing this up?
Somebody posted the same article awhile back. It seemed as silly then as it does now. This article might make for some good fantasy or science fiction, but beyond that, it is complete rubbish. I work for and within a tribal community every day as a public health nurse. My family is closely connected to the people of this community and very much involved in their traditional cultural practices
One thing I can't stand is the way "Native Americans" get lumped together, as though they all represent one, big, unified culture. In many instances, this would be like referring to Sicilians and Swedes as "Europeans," and believing that there are no differences in their traditional customs, belief systems, etc.
Apart from that, though, the idea that long hair somehow increases or enhances one's spiritual potency is simply ludicrous. To my knowledge, this is not a traditional belief held by any Native American culture of which I am aware, but instead more of a modern belief that has sprung to life on the New Age fringe. Also, I am fairly certain most bald-headed Buddhist monks of Tibet would disagree with the overall premise that long hair somehow equates to increased psychic power or spiritual ability.

I suppose there just *might* be something in your hair increasing sensory perception - much like the whiskers on a cat - but this article seems to imply something far beyond that.
I am deeply sceptical ... and my scepticism is increased when I note that some of the other "articles" on the original source blog where that one came from (http://indianinthemachine.wordpress.com/2010/12/09/the-truth-about-hair-and-why-nativeindians-would-keep-their-hair-lon/) are kooky verging on total insanity. For instance, it's hard to keep a straight face reading this titbit: "When you turn on your television sets and take a look at the leading anchors for the evening news, remember that you are looking at satanists".
At that point, I tiptoed silently off that blog while softly closing the door behind me ... and then RAN!!! O_o

Cats Whiskers
As Validus said, it's been posted here before, and as Long Hair in Albany said, there may be some truth in it similiar to the way cat's whiskers work, but the article suggests something beyond that, to the extent that I think they are trying to say it is supernatural. I don't buy that. Sensing air currents yes, but nothing more than that.
