Hi Guys
here's my issue.....my hair looks dry and straw-like after my weekly shampoo/condition, and only starts to look good the next day...before "peaking" over the next 3 or so days, it's almost as though it looks better as it gets greasier!
I am only 4 months into growing my hair out so not sure if this is normal....
What are your thoughts/experiences on this topic?
thanks
scott from Nottingham
Hey Scott, it's great to see that you are back and growing your hair again! I don't believe that it's already been 4 months... Anyway to address your question, I wouldn't use conditioner until your sides and back get a bit longer (6-7 months or so, depending on how fast your hair grows). Conditioner is used to replenish some of the natural oils that your shampoo stripped (even though its artificial), but at a shorter length I don't think that's a problem. I'd find a good moisturizing shampoo and use it every other day, while just water washing on off days. At 4-5 months what I also did was apply a small amount of jojoba or olive oil to my hair and a few hours later I'd shampoo w/o conditioning. Works wonders!
great tips dude!.....i'll try the olive oil pre-wash and see how it turns out!
4 months since i shaved my head...but stupidly had a little trim on sides and back in January
but as i said then...never again!
I also can see scalp under harsh lighting in the bathroom and my hair is very thick!....you have nothing to fear!...we all see the same methinks my friend!
Ta for your support bro'.

My thoughts are if it looks dry then it probably is dry. You may need to cut back on the amount of shampoo you're using and experiment with going longer between shampoos. What is working best for me is rinsing with conditioner every day and only shampooing about every two weeks or whenever conditioning alone stops leaving it feeling clean. It's really a trial and error thing to figure out what works best for you. Since I've gone to this regimen my hair has stopped feeling straw-like even after shampooing, though I do use very little shampoo and dilute it well before applying.
As for using oils on your hair, that again is a trial and error situation. I've tried about everything and my current favorite is applying Garnier Fructis Anti-Frizz Serum to damp hair. It's a very light oil and seems to be easier to get consistent results than with the other products I tried. Of course your results may vary.
Good luck!

good advice Dale
i must admit my hair does seem to "react" to shampoo by looking dry..and i'll minimise its use in future to see what happens.
Bought some coconut oil, as soon as i get a little length on it i'll experiment with this to see if i can nourish my hair further.
Once again thanks mt friend

My hair is exactly the same way, only in addition to looking straw-like immediately after a wash, it also gets frizzy and fluffy. I don't think this is necessarily a sign of damage or dryness, because my hair has always done this, even when I was very young and had thick, healthy hair. The best test of whether this is something to be concerned about is how your hair feels to touch. If it's rough and/or the strands break easily, then you should change your hair cair routine to be gentler on your hair. But if your hair feels strong and soft, the post-wash dryness is probably just the way your hair naturally reacts.
thanks Soren....my hair feels ok but looks dry, so it must be fine....looking at your update post you clearly know what you are talking about, your hair is very healthy and shiny!
Thanks for the advice dude

Yup, dry & frizzy the first day. Day 2 and 3 are the best, and then at 4 it gets too greasy.
Agreed!!...a similar pattern to me my good man!
