Last update was my 2 year mark, thought I would give an update. I still do not post as much as I should but i'm still on every day reading away. Lots of great posts.
It's been a long journey to get this far, with my curly wavey hair it's always somthing new on trying to get the knots out, I just spent atleast a half hour on todays knots, just working one hair out at a time so I do not damage it and brush as many out with a bour brush and finger comb before I bring out the standard brush, it's alot of work but well worth it.
I still consider myself in the awkward stage though, still seems too short, I think I will be out of the stage of awkward at the three year mark. Im at 15". Also I hit double yeard but it quit growing at 9.5" back in October :( Will post again at the big 3 years.
Cheers, MegaCheezle
Your hair looks great! Nothing "awkward" about it to me. Great curl too, wish mine would do that instead of just limply hanging down.
MegaCeezle,
Great looking hair! Nice color and curl!!!

Hi MegaCheezle,
You have fantastic looking hair. Keep it up! As a fellow wavy/curly, I find that sleeping with a braid helps me from getting tangles by the time morning comes. Do you sleep with your hair loose? I'm also a heavy coconut oil user, and I find that I don't have that much tangles anymore because of my dry thick coarse hair. Also, have you tried a wide tooth wooden comb (The Bodyshop is a popular brand for wooden combs long haired folks love, and it's cheap)? Wide tooth wooden combs I find is much more gentle than a brush, and helps distribute the natural oils in my head better. This type of comb is also recommended for our hair type. I hope my tips can help with your knots situation. You have an awesome mane to be proud of!
cheers,
rowie
Fantastic update! I love the body and shine your hair has.
awesome hair buddy......a little like Aragon in Lord of the Rings!.....epic!
Thanks for the update

Wow, what great long hair. Terrific! About the Awkward Stage: I think that there are really 2 sometimes and that it DOES take a full 3 years for all to be REALLY settled in. Sometime around or after 2 years when it seems that all is settled, suddenly out of the blue, a period (at least speaking from what I can remember) the hair at the ends suddenly makes a "last attempt" to flip up. Probably lasts less than 2 months and after that never dares fight gravity again.
You have probably tried these things but just in case:
1. Some detangler before finger-combing to get the knots and snags out.
2. Sleeping with multiple segmented ties in a Ponytail for less knots and snags.
3. The use of spray in Conditioner in addition to using lots as part of the washing routine.
4. If a brush "must" be used, after detangling by hand, first use a nice Wooden Comb.
Best of luck to you and at least you got this far and are just about in the drivers seat so to speak.

Hi MegaCheezle,
You have really good-looking hair - almost "Vikingish" if I had to match it to something I've seen previously :) . I wonder what your hair will look like when it gets longer :o .....
