Awhile ago there was a small discussion about the use of hairsticks which pops of on this board from time to time.So after rowie posted his hairstick attempt a couple weeks ago I decided that after I returned home from my trip to California I'd order some and give it a stab. Not knowing what type to get I ordered one set of wooden sticks and another one plastic.Well the plastic one showed up in the mail today and I'm still waiting for the wooden ones.So I figured why not, let's try the plastic one that I just received.First I had to scroll down to find that youtube link rowie provided for doing a simple bun that was actually Trolleypup.I mean he did it and pulled it out in under 30 seconds. So I watched it and followed the simple hand movements and presto I did one!Yea!!!!Then I pulled and redone it several more times and it really was that easy.So after the last one I took a couple pics of the result and here they are:)Have to say it is a better alternative than the ole ball cap:)Cheers

Another pic of the same bun.
Excellent...and it looks like you could get away with the short stainless steel chopsticks Garrettwade.com sells, I think they are 5.5 or 6 inches.
Hi Mârk,
This is a really cool shot of your bun! I definitely agree with Trolleypup. However, if you want to make the stick smaller then you could always try different buns that will eat up that stick. But for now, get used to Trolleypup's methods before attempting buns that can eat up that stick if you so choose to venture out later on. I'm just so excited for you because you've hinted before that you'd like your hair longer, and bunning is just another stylish protective method of protecting the ends of your hair from being exposed to friction, I hope this method will help you achieve your desired length.
cheers,
rowie
Hi Mârk,
Wow, that is one good looking bun! Your hair looks amazing! I'm jealous. Yeah, now you can protect those ends and hopefully you'll be able to reach the desired length you are going for. I've been wearing my hair up for a month now and I've noticed the difference compared to a ponytail. My ends are no longer dry because I always make sure to use some kind of essential oils like coconut oil on my hair. Sure enough when I unravel my bun my hair is still moist and my hairs are soft and healthy feeling. At your length there are so many ways you can experiment with, but truly Trolleypup's way is the most simplest and yet effective, you just have to have length to do his method, like you. Unfortunately, I could only do simple buns like the cinnabun, or lazywrap bun. I hope now you can achieve your desired length, which I forgot to ask you, what is your new goal length?
thanks for sharing this!

Hi Mârk,
You can also try Deer Antler wishbone from Grahtoestudio. For my length it only takes me 15 seconds to bun my hair with this bad boy! I can shake my head and my bun will not budge, completely indestructible(both material and my bun).

It looks good, Mark. This would probably not work for me with a bike helmet, so I am stuck with a multiple hair tie segmented tail.
Scott
Hey Scott,
You can try positioning it into a very low bun, but make the bun while you have a helmet to determine exactly where you need to position the stick. Nice to see you again!

I'd like to thank everyone for their comments to my hairstick thread. As soon as my first hairstick arrived in the mail I just had to attempt doing one.The stick is obviously way long being it protrudes way out of my hair but looks cool just the same.My next set, whenever they arrive, are shorter so will have less overhang. For some reason the next day I kept messing up the last part where I'm
to lock the end of my tail to hold it all together. The bun kept getting loose and unravelling. So I'll just have to go back to the video to recheck that last part to secure the bun.Still I love the look and feel of the bun over a ball cap which I'll probably still will have to do at work due to the nature of my job.Anyway thanks again and hope you all are having a fabulous weekend:) Cheers
