...some of the posts here can be fairly prejudiced and nasty towards those who have different views than held by some of our posters.
Tolerance is a two-way street, and if you want others to be tolerant of your views, you have to allow them to have and express theirs.
Please keep in mind that not everyone on this board has the same outlook. I'm aware that a lot of the members, or at least many of the more active members, are fairly liberal, politically speaking. But this doesn't necessarily apply to everyone. I, for example, am fairly conservative in my viewpoints. Doesn't mean I'm a card-carrying Republican, but I'm certainly no fan of the Democratic party either.
What happens if someone curious shows up, a prospective longhair looking for support, and the first thing they see is some angry rant? They're quite likely to go elsewhere, and then we have failed.
Our common goal here is to support fellow longhairs. How about we keep to that, and maybe leave the political rants to more appropriate venues, like forums designed for that purpose, maybe?

Me neither
relax. I won't post any more political stuff, but you gotta admit Ted Nugent is one hell of a hypocrite. he acts real tough and like some hard-core patriot, but look at what he did to get out of Vietnam.
personally, I don't care how you vote, but that guy makes me sick. never liked him and anyone that does probably does not know the real Ted or is sick in the head themselves.
Hey I support your right to grow your hair long.
take care and don't worry the the rant was not directed at you, but Nugent! ;-)
Now that wasn't very nice to say as I now wonder if you were ever tossed from a Nugent concert in the past by one of those big bouncers.I suggest you take this crusade to Facebook where it belongs:)Just some friendly advice...Cheers

ps: Still can't find my "sick in the head" meds darn it!Grrrrrr
Personally I do care how you vote. Because the essence of social-conservativism is not tolerance, quiet the opposite. Longhairs have been the target of discrimination just as have other minority groups.
If your religion tells you that you shouldn't have long hair, then keep your hair short. IF your religion tells you that you shouldn't marry someone of the same gender, then be sure you don't have a gay wedding. But if you want to talk about tolerance, then you had sure has hell better not vote for a candidate who wants to impose your will on others.
Social-Conservativism is all about appealing for tolerance of intolerance, and that is something that no-one should tolerate.
I'm with you, although not a conservative (either trad or neo), strong polarizing speech, especially broad-brush black and white type is pretty offputting. People are individuals, and issues are shades of grey. Saying that a Real Longhair must have a particular political or social view or taste in music is ridiculous...me, I listen to long dead northern European white men[1] and dislike modern musicians/performers[2] who use aids for their performances.
A Real Longhair has hair longer than societal or personal norms, regardless of anything else. I don't have any desire to pigeonhole someone wanting to be or stay a long hair because of their politics or personal preferences. I'd rather stand and show that long hair is possible, that life and work and play can be had at all lengths. That you don't have to be like any particular group to achieve your personal goal and fulfillment.
[1] Granted, some of them were long hairs, although I am sure that many had objectional politics and wrote what was needed to make money.
[2] My interest fades out mostly with the late Romantic Era...popular music does little for me. But that is my taste, and I'd never say that people who prefer something different are wrong or bad.
But it was not posted because of signing in at a wifi spot.
Many of the old diehard longhairs would consider ourselves to be hippies or at least freaks, and those who aren't probably don't care about the distinction between the two.
Hippie philosophy is not synonymous with any political party, and many people here are not Americans anyway (for full disclosure, I live in America, but I am not a US citizen, so I can't vote atall). Hippie philosophy probably falls somewhere between liberal, anarchist and libertarian, with each individual having their own unique PoV, but I'm not sure that there is any political party anywhere in the world that truly represents us. Most political parties are far too authoritarian, regardless of whether they consider themselves to be on the left or the right.
Some 'hippies' would vote for Obama and some for Ron Paul, but probably zero would vote for Rick Santorum. Why? Someone already pointed it out. It's because social conservatism is anathema to us. Social conservatism is also the enemy of tolerance, and that's where there's a big conundrum. I'm tolerant of every PoV except one, I'm not tolerant of intolerance, and I won't apologise for that.
I actually used to be a card carrying member of the Conservative party in the UK, a long time ago. My views have moved on a little since then, but the fact is they never had an extreme social agenda like the Republican party now seems to.
I'm not opposed to the free market, but I believe in a social safety net. So, for example, I oppose cutting food stamps to fund missiles, and apparently the Republican party are down with that if you read the latest news, which apalls me.
Maybe it's not a great idea to support politically someone who thinks you should 'Get a Haircut and Get a Real Job' (plug for George Thorogood and the Destroyers!).
