Hey, hope you all are enjoying a nice weekend like I am.Certainly great weather today. So today I'm posting another couple pics of my hair in a simple bun but with a new set of hair sticks I recently received. These are more like wooden chopsticks as compared to that plastic one I used in the last update.Nothing too fancy here as I haven't made any complicated braids like rowie has been showing recently.Anyway enough of me and onto the pics:)Cheers

Just another pic of the same bun:)Enjoy...
Mârk
Mârk, you definitely are in the right path! The combination of colors of the sticks again go really well with your hair. It's nice that it looks like you did a nice tight bun. Did it hold well?
cheers,
rowie
Hi rowie,
I've been working on the bun and do tend to wrap it tighter because some of my previous attempts did unravel that were looser.maybe I didn't anchor the end of the tail properly which could have been the reason also. Now the trick is to be brave and wear this out in public my friend!LOL.Cheers
Mârk
Mârk you definitely can wear it out. If it helps try wearing one stick out to public in your area and see how it goes before attempting two sticks. I think you can get away with Trolleypup's easy bun, for he wears that everyday and for long periods of time. I'll atatch the link to his video again just in case other members would like to try it out. I don't know if he's reached his goal of Knee length yet though.
cheers,
rowie
Mârk, you should definitely try to wear them outside. Once you've noticed nobody actually cares, you'll be more at ease ;)
I like hairsticks and I wear them occasionally (well usually just one). Recently I have been wearing a large nail instead.
BTW Did I ever tell you your new hair colour is awesome?
Hi hairfreaky,
Do you have any advice for beginners using a stick and a style of you like with stick(s). I'm kind of having a hard time thinking of the different styles to wear them.
thanks in advance,
rowie
I know two kinds of buns with a stick, I used to make one in the past with two sticks but I forgot how to make it. The ones I make are called Lazy Wrap Bun (LWB) and Nautilus Bun. You can find many tutorials on Youtube. The picture is of a LWB
Wow Hairfreaky, this looks difficult. I'll definitely look at youtube for the lazy wrap bun. You really are a talented self photographer as well.
You have a wonderful week to come!
Cheers,
rowie
Hi Rowie,
Both buns aren't too difficult, just give it a try. Here's a link for the LWB.
Good luck!

Thanks Hairfreaky! Now I can venture out instead of just twisting my hair into a ball. LOL
And this is the nautilus bun
Hairfreaky you have really beautiful hair! Thanks for sharing your pictures. I love the idea of using a nail to secure a bun. I'll definitely have to start learning how to secure them.
cheers,
rowie

Wow hairfreaky, thank you for the compliment on my hair color as coming from you that kind of praise is a high honor:) I almost get goosebumps thinking you noticed my hair!
Actually I did wear my hair sticks out today and felt very comfortable in them.On occasion I still have problems with the bun unravelling so I must be missing something about anchoring the hair upon completion of the wrap.Any suggestions would be much appreciated my friend:)Cheers
Mârk
Well I'm glad you feel confortable with them! Now I am not really an expert in buns, I know 4 different kinds, two of them with hairtie and two with a hairstick. I tried others in the past but forgot how to do them. I can't detect which kind it is you make, could you explain? Otherwise it's hard to tell what you could do differently...
Hi Hairfreaky,
The bun I have been doing is called the Lazy Wrap Bun and I watched how it was done by watching a youtube video by our own Trolleypup. It was simple to make up but at the end after the final wrap I couldn't see where he tucked the final end of the tail.So I just improvised by jamming it in at different points within the bun.Sometimes they held fairly well while other times it would just start unraveling after moving around a bit.I'm sure its simple but haven't yet gotten the correct solution.

Hi Mark,
I was thinking it was a LWB but I only know it with one hairstick. It's actually one of those few that I know how to make. The end of the hair is put 'behind' the bun, and it should stay in place (at least it does for me) if you insert the hairstick correctly.
Why not check another video, maybe it helps. I think this one is quite clear. Good luck!

Hi Hairfreaky:)
Thanks for that video as it was interesting how that person did the lazy bun as I was doing it a different way.Rowie had posted a link, contained in the last post of my thread here,to Trolleypup's version of the Lazy Bun.In his clip he wrapped the hair alternating around the hair stick already in the hair.Your version has the hair stick put in last and using the fingers to support the hair in the beginning.I'm sure both methods work well but I couldn't tell where to place the end of the hair after the wrap was completed.I did try and tuck in behind the bun and that seemed to hold the best. Also I'm only using two hair sticks because they came that way and I kinda liked the look of two of them in the bun:)Also I thought two might provide more locking of the bun.Thank you my friend for your help.Cheers
Mârk
Hi Mark,
I love to wear two sticks as well! I usually will use two antler sticks like this. For me, two sticks does provide extra support.
Hope this helps.
cheers,
rowie
Hi rowie,
Hey I love the look of that pair of antler sticks in your hair:) The way I look at it is the hair sticks are functional in keeping the bun in place but they also add an adornment to your hair that's very attractive. That's why I chose the wooden sticks in that color as I think they are highlighted in my hair.I like the fact they stand out the way they do.Thanks for posting that bun with antlers rowie as I just love it!Cheers
Mark
Hello Mârk,
You did a stunning bun! I like the choice of wood. It really suits your hair color. I like the idea of wearing two sticks for days when I want a tighter pull and extra support. You definitely wear them well! You have a fabulous weekend friend! And thanks so much for sharing this, it gave me a smile!
cheers,
rowie
Thank you rowie for the compliments as there were many different woods available but I chose the Zebra Wood ones:)Also liked the fact they came in pairs because I like that look better with the two sticks plus the extra support. You too have a great weekend my friend:)Cheers

These look great, Mark. It is good to have them at an angle. I have heard of getting poked in the neck with them straight up and down. That hurts.
Scott
Hi Scott,
The ends of the stick are blunt so even if they poke my neck there is no harm.I tend to angle the sticks downwards so that the weight of the heavier end doesn't make the stick back out. That is if I had inserted them with the points going upwards.
