After about 5 years of growing it out, I got some awesome length, but realized that if I grow my hair longer than mid back my ends start to get weak no matter how many trims I get or if I oil my ends a lot (my terminal is probably around the waist length area so if grew it to that point I would just have crappy ends). My hair length is a little past mid back and can't grow it anymore without it looking weak. I have decided to keep it this length for good and it has been a fun journey and want to thank all the members who helped me along the way! I will still post updates of me and my hair, but not more growing pictures. :)
Gotta say, you're have some pretty neat lookin hair. It helped me out grow it before and it'll do it again especially since my hair is the very wavy and curly type. Thanks for the inspiration Mark!
Glad I could be an inspiration for you Andy! Here's to happy growing on your journey! \m/ Thanks for the comment bro!
Hi Mark.
Glad that you've had a fun journey and that you're keeping it just below mid back. I suggest it's not the end of your journey, but the start of a new one as a long-haired mentor and ambassador. Your hair suits you so well and has been an inspiration to me and many others from your earlier You Tube videos to the present day. Keep on posting for the benefit of other members and those just starting out on the journey.
"I suggest it's not the end of your journey, but the start of a new one as a long-haired mentor and ambassador"
Now those are some true words that I would gladly live by sir! End of one journey and now unto my second journey of longhairdom! Thanks for the great comments Ian and glad I could be an inspiration for you! :D
There is a wonderful quote from the SciFi series FIREFLY:
The journey is the worthier part
Thanks for sharing yours with us.
Walter
Thank you Walter! You have always been there for me in growing out my hair and always commenting on my hair updates. It has been a fun journey indeed, but just an end of one and the start of a new journey! :)
Good decision - everyone's hair has an optimum length and it is sensible to recognise that. In the long run it is better for you and for appearance.
You are very right UK. My hair just kept getting weak and weak every time it went past mid back for about the last 6 months and my ideal length is def mid back length! I want to have a nice thick full head of mid back hair then weak waist length hair! Thank you for the comment!
Hi Mark,
Well that seems to be the topic of posts since Jason did one below so we all have to make that final determination at some point in our journey.I feel my journey had ended even before I joined the mlhh being that is when I had my last professional trim.Like I mentioned in Jason's thread you'd think I would have mega long hair by now but sadly that's not the case.So I will take what I got and run with it throwing in some henna along the way;)LOL.Your hair looks awesome so nothing to be ashamed of my friend.Just keep it long and keep the faith:)Cheers
Mârk
Thanks for the comments Mark! Yeah I use to want waist length hair but I def don't see that happening now and it's hard enough to take care of at mid back length! LOL. But I (like you) will be putting henna on my hair and improve the overall strength of my hair! :)
Mark with due respect I think you've misunderstood the journey.
The journey is not how long you can grow your hair, its about going through life 'being a longhair'. Just because your hair doesn't grow any longer (hell mine hasn't grown much this year) doesn't mean your journey is at an end or even on hiatus.
If you don't believe me, look at guys who never cut their hair. As old age creeps in their hair gets more fragile and their terminal length slowly recedes - is their journey going backwards? Hell no its still going, its just entering a new phase!
As is yours!
Thank you Sorted and you are right! The journey of being a longhair is now beginning for me truly and I do not want short hair ever again. Saw your update just now and your hair looks great and about the same length as mine is as well! :) Here's to being a longhair for life. \m/
As Ian said, you are just moving on to the next phase, or at least moving out of this phase. Whichever way, you ARE a long hair, whether growing or maintaining.
finding a length that makes YOU happy is the important thing.
Personally, I'm not keen on upper body length thin ends, but they don't bother me at all at lower body lengths. *shrug* Which is good, I guess, for me.
Thank you Trolleypup! I have seen your updates in the past and you have wonderful hair and length to be proud of! And you are right, out of an old journey of growing and the new journey of being a longhair for life! :D I am truly happy with having mid back length hair and it's def long enough on me. :)
I don't know if the others here would agree with me or not, but
maybe whoever has been trimming your hair does not know what they are doing.
I would ask around for a salon in your area that is "long-hair friendly" and when I stipulate that I am also referring to salons that would be inclined to cater to guys with long hair and I am not talking about the "longish" styles so make sure it is a salon that will cater to your needs.
whatever you do stay away from the chain strip mall type salons.
may I ask how long your hair was when you started on your journey and how long it took to get past the awkward stage and get to shoulder length and how long it took to get to shoulder length to wear it is today?
I wish you luck in reaching waist length!
Thanks Nigel! I get a family member to give me slight trims every few weeks. I don't trust the mall stylists at all either. I am happy with having just below mid back length hair and don't really want waist, but at one time that was my goal.
Mark I just wanted to stop by to let you know that you have amazing hair! You have hair longer than me and I am proud to see that you represent us longhairs really well! I hope someday I can come to realization of where my ends will thin out and to celebrate what my body will give me, just like you aknowledge your wonderful hair. I celebrate your hair and what you do with it, for I know you've contributed so much already with your updates, and I just want to let you know that I really appreciate them despite my lack of responding to them.
Cheers and please keep us updated for you will always be welcomed graciously to me!
-rowie
Thank you for the kind comments Rowie! Good to see you posting dude :). It has been fun growing out my hair and now I will just keep trimming to keep my ends healthy and to make my ends even healthier over time! Cheers! :)
Mark, Congrats on reaching a desired goal length - Let a new journey begin!
- Oren
Thank you Oren! New journey indeed! :)
Hi MarkS,
Well, very few of us on planet Earth are lucky to have the hair genetics like Danny Cecati (of Eyefear fame) has with his floor-length mane; but, when all is said & done, your mane is pretty amazing-looking, with nothing but pride & gratitude should you be feeling for how good it looks, if you ask me!
Anyway, a big CONGRATS to you!!
- Ken
Thank you Ken! I realized that waist length hair on me just wouldn't look or feel good on me, so around mid back length is my ideal length for sure. :) Like Jason, I feel mid back length looks best on me as my ends are thicker!
Congratulations Mark on achieving what you wanted with your hair. Your have successfully found the right length that suits you. You have an awesome thick mane of hair:) I don't think the hair journey necessarily ends with hair length. Other aspects of a long hair journey through life is seeing and experiencing how it changes and evolves over the years in changing hair textures, thickness and as we get older hair colour when many of us will experience silver hair growing in. And I enjoyed our chat the other night via facebook.
Best,
Duncan
Thank you Duncan! You are right that my journey really doesn't end but changes over time as I age. Let's say my hair starts to thin out at age 60, I will probably keep it around shoulder length as I turn into an older man, but will always keep my hair "long" regardless! It was great to chat to you too on FB!
