Based upon your own experience what subcultures do you think
are the most tolerant or long haired friendly?
what subculture, if any seem less tolerant or not as friendly toward longhairs?
this is based upon your own personal experience and opinions, not from what you've heard from others.

Goths, Heavy Metal fans, Surfers, Hippies and alternative lifestyle free thinkers, Emos, Artists and Musicians, and Cyberspace Gamers or anyone in general who is a computer, electronic geek. University staff and students. AND non-conformists who don't belong to any particular subculture.
Skinheads, Military, Wanksta Homeboys and gang cultures, most gays in general, ethnic groups who come from conservatively repressed societies, ie Middle East, Africa, South America

Speaking from my experience as a regular visitor to gay dance clubs, I disagree about gays being intolerant of long hair. It's true that very few of them have it, but I think that's because they are trying to avoid conforming to the stereotypical gay image in order to increase their social prestige. But many of them find this stereotype (long hair, pretty face, and flashy clothes) to be very attractive, even if they're not brave enough to emulate it themselves.
I think you nailed it about gay people. I've noticed that I get copious amounts of envious compliments about the hair no matter what I might be wearing. I can go in a wifebeater and ratty cutoff Daisy Dukes or the shiniest skinniest hilariously underpriced high-powered name brand stuff I catch on ebay, doesn't make a difference. It takes a tuxedo to draw their fire. Personal note: Tuxedos don't work around other tuxes. That scenario only draws moar attention to the hair.
