My hair has a tendency to get frizzy with a bunch of loose strands sticking out everywhere unless I use some kind of gel or other product. I got tired of it and decided to do something. My hair is halfway between straight and curly, so I could have gone either way. I usually pull my hair back into a tail for work, so I decided to go for the straight look. After half an hour of searching, I finally found a hair straightening kit in the pharmacy section of my local grocery. With my wife's help I followed the process exactly (except for using the included gloves - my hands are huge) and ended up straightening it just enough to make it more manageable than it was without losing the natural look. If you didn't know I had done anything, you wouldn't be able to tell by looking.
My question is... will I have to perform more maintenance now that it's been chemically treated? Will my hair be more brittle? Will using a conditioner be good enough or will I have to start using some kind of oil?
Any advice is welcome.
Wow.
Ok, then. I'll just wing it.
Last time I tried to grow my hair I chemically straightened my hair, the salon lady told me to use good shampoo and Hydration conditioner because it dries out your hair very bad, and if I returned to walmart products it would return to curly eventually. I made the mistake of getting it straightened, I love the curls this time around, better to let nature take its course, but do what makes you happy, just take care of the hair, that process is very damaging to it. Rehydrate!
I didn't completely straighten it. At first glance, you can't even tell I did anything. But it did successfully reign in the frizziness. I have a lot fewer stray strands. I also used a high-end brand of straightener that came with a special rehydrator that you use at the end of the process while the hair is still porous to keep it from becoming too brittle. Let's hope it works like it's supposed to.
