I was watching the Queen`s Diamond Jubilee on TV and hoping I would see some handsome young men with long hair, but looking at the crowd all I saw was short hair on all the English Men! :-(
Probably sheltering from the rain!
Alive and well but probably covering it with hats etc in a vain attempt to stay dry yesterday.
A lot of us aren't royalists. I am working today as a matter of principle. There are lots of about if you keep looking!
That is a baseless assertion.
I hardly think that the long haired community is any different from the rest of the population, more that 75% of whom favour the monarchy and congratulate Her Majesty on a triumphant reign of 60 years.
Long may she continue to reign.
I haven't done a detailed survey, so I can't say if the same monarchy popularity rating applies to the overall long haired population of the UK. Quite a few of the longhairs I know personally aren't royalist/monarchist, hence my comment, which wasn't indended to be taken too seriously.
It remains absolutely baseless and of no merit.
It remains a light-hearted comment that a "lot of us aren't royalists". I love the tradition of royal pageantry myself but it is a valid observation that many dudes with long hair tend to rebel against symbols of convention and authority.
One might also comment that one or two longhairs don't have a sense of humour and need to lighten up. Sadly, that may be a valid observation too.

How times do change. As a student of English History I learnt that in the 1640's period the English civil war Royalist supporters of King Charles 1 wore their hair long and the anti-Royalist Parliamentarian Roundheads wore theirs cropped short.
I think if you went to any Renaissance fair or archaic warfare reenactment in the UK you will probably find a lot of longhaired people who are romantics for history and nostalgia and probably find a sigificant number who are pro-Royal family and wish to uphold some old traditions and ways.
I personally do not mind having the English royal family at all and do think the Queen still performs an important ceremonial role. Though I lean to the left in some things I do still believe in the preservation of some traditional institutions. The royals have no real power anymore and are now merely glorified civil servants who carry out state functions. In the 2nd world war the Brit Royal family helped boost morale amongst the British people when they were being targeted by German Luftwaffe bombs. Three cheers for good Queen Bess. I am not a strong royal fan but am suspicious of the republicans who seem to have too many ties to the far-right for my liking. Sure the Republicans have ideas that can appeal to rational people but unfortunately they do not touch many peoples hearts. If it ain't broke why fix it? Sorry I ramble on sometimes.
Cheers, Duncan
I'm more or less in the royalist camp myself. I've always been mad about history and a raving romantic!
I think a "lot of us" (long-haired guys) are royalists and a "lot of us" are not. But I certainly found no offence in bte's comment. I took it as a light-hearted reminder that many longhairs - nowadays at least - tend to buck conventions.
As I say, I'm nuts about history and you've given me an idea. I've never been to one of these Renaissance fairs. They sound like fun and I think I'll visit a local one this summer - that is, if the weather ever improves!

Here's a picture of me.
Your hair looks great, just awesome looking, nice and thick looking and great color.
Tom(Hairboy)
Thanks Tom! :D
I"m irish but live in the us.. Actually I was born here but my parents are both Irish.
Well now. Being of Scot (wi' a wee bit o' Welsh)
descent. I am not certain the royals would be comfortable if a large group of long haired Scots were to have shown up. Wasn't a good day the last time that happened.
Would England even allow long hairs to be seen or would they
scrub images of long hairs? After all i've seen news reports of the Olympics and all the efforts England is making to hide their
poor, homeless, rockers, .etc.
Don't believe everything you read or see in biased news reports
Especially if they are owned by the Rupert Murdoch propaganda "news" limited.
Thank god for that we still have a few independent media voices left.

If Prince William would grow his hair out, I would attend any ceremony to see his hair anytime. The photos in his teens show beautiful curly hair that is an excellent base to grow long. Its similar to earlier photos of Ian Andersons hair of Jethro Tull before he lost it, or Peter Framptons before his hair was eliminated, with that thick wavy look that frames the face so well. But Price William would look just ecstatic with such nice facial features surrounded by long hair.
What a wonderful example for the future King to stop his hair loss with a prescription DHT blockers. then undergoes numerous hair transplant operations to reestablish a full head of hair to grow long. Looks like he still has enough donor hair left to adequately redistribute the resistant hairs to the top and front interspersed among the hairs still surviving on top that can be saved with the drugs. If he doesnt, he will become almost completely bald because of the progression of MPB at such an early age. For the public ceremonial role that he has, a full head of long hair is mandatory. Once he starts to grow his hair out, we can help him out if he posts here.
Don (English and German)
I am English and I have long hair. I am quite indifferent to the jubilee though, maybe British longhairs generally don't like the Queen.
Well, there's me. OK, I do live in the States, but I had long hair back home too. Maybe most long haired men are not ultra royalists. In fact, I think most of the crazed royalty watchers are women. Like my wife. Hope she doesn't read this, LOL!
cool band btw Nigel.
thanks for sharing!
In person around the river on the pageant day, there were quite a lot of long haired men and boys but tended to have it tied up just the same as I had.
You're right about TV coverage though. I would have thought there would be several to be seen on the concert evening.
