Hey Guys,
I'd like to tap into your collective wisdom.
As I write this tread I'm marking fifteen (15) months since my last haircut. Fifteen months ago I got a guage four (4) buzz cut. Now my hair is about seven and one half (7 1/2) inches in length and is beginning to touch my shoulders. I really enjoy tilting my bead back and shaking my hair and feeling it against the top of my back.
Here's the deal; during the last few days I've noticed a little bit more shedding than before. My hair feel almost brittle and has a texture like paste. I waterwash my hair almost every day. I shampoo my hair on Wed. and Sun. with Tarocco moisturizing shampoo. I condition my hair every even numbered calendar day with Biotene H-24 Natural conditioner with Biotin Phase II conditioner. I put my hair back into a ponytail and spray the loose ends with a product called Enjoy Styling Spray. This holds my loose ends from the front of my head in place so that I look presentable and professional. At night I finger comb my hair, then I comb it, then I brush it. I also take a Biotin 600 tablet each day.
Do any of you guys have any thoughts to share with me?
Don't grow up, grow down.

It's possible the shedding is normal. Humans generally shed about 100 hairs per day, but it's not as noticable with short hair because it falls away easily. Longer hair tends to hold on and won't fall away until it's brushed or otherwise manipulated. You're at about the length when you start noticing.
I'm not sure what to say about the pasty feel. Sounds like your shampoo may be leaving some residue behind and it's just building up. I generally wash with dish soap once a month to remove any buildup. It's your decision, and dish soap can be harsh, but it's something to consider. If it works, you'll know what the cause is and can address it by adjusting your routine or products. If it makes no difference, you can rule it out and there's no harm done. One treatment isn't generally enough to cause significant damage.
I'm thinking you are just noticing more shedding because each strand is getting longer and thus the volume of hair lost is increasing but probably not the actual number of hairs.
Your routine sounds good to me. You might try CWC - conditioning the length before applying any shampoo, then shampooing just the scalp and finishing with a final conditioning of the length. This is what I usually do. I often use two different conditioners as my hair likes product rotation.
Hey guys!
Thanks for the advise. I will try conditioning first, then shampooing, then finishing with another conditioner. I will also try the dishwashing soap once a month.
Thanks again!
You longhaired bro,
Raymond
You're welcome but I'm not making it up, it really is advice not advise! :D
Don't use dish washing soap on your hair! It is to harsh. Your not suppose to even use it to wash your car.

I suggested it as a troubleshooting step, not as a regular routine. Used once just to figure out your situation is not going to do enough damage to cause trouble.
I do agree that it shouldn't be done regularly, but it should not be completely avoided.
To clarify, I do use it ocasionally, but everyone's hair is different. So are different detergents. It also depends on what other products you use regularly. If you don't use anything that causes buildup, then the detergent is going to go directly to your hair, in which case damage could occur. But if you use something that is heavy on waxes, oils, or silicones, then the detergent is going to be diluted by the time it reaches the hair itself.
There may be other products that accomplish the same thing, but I haven't found them. It's something everyone has to determine for themselves.
