Hallo! The story of mine is simple enough - dreamed of long hair for long, but in our conservative post-soviet society it's difficult to avoid unhealthy attention. For long I depended on society's opinion. But being a student within great atmosphere of youth, freedom and science changed something inside me :)
So I haven't had a haircut for a year. Previous haircut was simple and traditional enough - very short sides (temple-area, back), trimmed with a machine. And a bit longer top.
Hate visiting our local haircutters, so decided to give my hear chance to grow in a natural way. Had some awkward moments, but now the hair looks really the way I like it! And I really feel much more comfortable right now.
But the thing is, I see that soon enough (probably 3-4 months) hair in the back will reach a bit more length that I want it to. So I decided to trim ends just a bit. The question is, what should I do with a hair in front and sides? The length of hair in front and sides is 4 or 5 cm shorter. But it's also long enough right now. I wonder, if I should make the length in the back and sides-front equal? Is it a normal? Or a hair in front should be a bit shorter than in the back?
I like wearing my hair in a free way (just fill in hair in front behind the ears). Sometimes I also tie everything in a tail.
Don't want to make any specific stylish haircuts, so just wondering if everything is all right in equalizing the length of hair? Or the difference should always be kept? How do you usually cut your hair, so that I could also see variants?
Ultimately the length of you hair is up to you. My preferred length is waist length, front, back, and sides. (No bangs or frindge as some call them.) I often wear it in a pony tail,
braid(s), or pig tails. I wore it longer in the 80s, was
knee length in the 80s, but that was too long. Cut it back
to waist length.
What I would suggest is grow your hair as long as you want,
try various hair styles until you settle on your preferred
length/style. You may say now you don't want it waist length,
but when you get to mid back you may decide to grow it further.
You really can't experience waist length hair until you actually
acheive waist length hair.
Your hair can be all one length, it can also vary in length from
front to back (short in front, long in back, the mullet.)
But ultimately it is your hair, it is entirely your choice as to
how you wear it. That being said it can be long, short or
anywhere in between.
Thanks for your answer! Don't want any mullet, that's for sure.
Probably I should really try growing it a bit longer.
Concerning trimming. Just looked at your avatar here, the length seems good to me. Is the hair at the sides and front just the same as at the back? Or the length differs a bit? I love such a style and would really appreciate your answer.
Thanks from Ukraine! :)
My hair is the same length all around. Makes putting it in a pony tail/braids easier.
One thing i would caution though, once your grow your hair carefully follow the two week rule before you trim or cut anything.
When I get back to my ideal length it will be waist length
again front back and sides.
********Disclaimer********************
[I'm in Albany New York, I have no clue what resistance you'll run into living in Ukraine. I'll leave that aspect to others who have experience living there. Albany NY is very long hair
friendly, I don't know if the same can be said for the Ukraine.]
Concerning your disclaimer. Actually, in our country it's really out of order for men to be long-haired. Old soviet-like stereotypes are still in action
Still, I'm lucky enough to be an engineer (IT). It's common for IT-people to be long-haired in our country :) And it looks really great. So I'm sure I won't have many problems with job.
Anyway, I really feel myself much better with long hair. It's the way I see myself. I Enjoy feeling my hair, enjoy playing with it. And really like it :)
So thanks! Going to post photo of me being long-haired soon enough, and will certainly try to inform concerning it's growth and my feelings about it.
Perhaps you should try for all one length, which I think looks
good, Then later if you want something different you could
change your hair style.
Forget these silly ideas of trimming - just let it grow for two years and then take stock.
Do you have a current pic of your hair?
It sounds like you will enjoy it no matter what length you experiment with, so have fun! I have had mine from waist length to its current shoulder-lengthish bob cut (longer in front than back). Being in higher education (a liberal environment), I have had freedom to do this. It sounds like you have the same!
