Hey guys, haven't posted here in a while but,
I've been doing some work experience lately in a marketing department and I have long hair. I was told that I'd need to cut my hair short to be successful in business, then I was given the challenge. "Find me ONE long haired successful male, You can use google, you won't be able to find one because there are none".
I've looked and found plenty of pictures of long haired males in suits, but none with specific information about who they are.
So my challenge for you guys is to help find some long haired business men, their names, the organisations they work for and their job title? (don't need all of them.)
Also, feel free to discuss long hair in a professional environment!
Thank you guys a lot.
Sir Richard Branson leaps to mind. I'm sure there are loads more.
Branson is worth an estimated US$4.2 billion - which I suspect is a little bit more than the smug fools who set you the challenge. ;)

Look up the CEO of Sun or whatever, makers of Java. He has a ponytail.
Mike
Jonathan I. Schwartz is the man you're thinking of I believe.
How about the former CEO of Sun Microsystems. I seem to remember he had a ponytail.
Branson owns an airline, a mobile phone company and record stores. I have one of his phones in my pocket. He used to own a record label, but sold that.
He also owns a company that is hoping to put people in outer space. No, it's not SpaceEx who you will have recently heard about. All his companies use the Virgin name.
There's also Sir John Harvey-Jones, although he died in 2008. Other businessmen considered him to have long hair, although it's a bit of a stretch. He was at one time chairman of ICI, which is the largest corporation in the UK (by capital). GEC is largest by number of employees.
I realize non-one in the US knows much about ICI, which John Harvey-Jones was chairman of. However, they own Glidden paint in the US, and that's just a small part of the company.
Not sure if it's exactly relevant, but Shaggy and Violent J (Insane Clown Posse) are great businessmen. When they started to get their name spread around detroit, they put out a record on a local label.
The record hit and they got offers from international labels. They turned every offer down and instead continued on the local label and produced another album.
With the two albums they had about 80 thousand saved up. They used that to make a studio and their own record label (psychopathic records) and produced and owned their own music, keeping all of the profit while also signing other acts (twiztid and tech n9ne being the most prominent two) .
So they wear clown makeup, Violent J used to have long dreads, and they went from nothing to being the owners of a big underground label. How's that for successful businessmen?
I know that the music industry isn't easily comparable with the rest of the world, but it was the first thing that came to mind.

Move along, nothing to see here.
Well, how about Steve Jobs? He had long hair in his youth. I mean not only a university-period, but the period when Apple was already created and somehow famous.
Oh, yes. It's an IT-industry (and there are lots of long-haired developers in this branch), but Steve Jobs wasn't a developer. He was a great leader, businessman and marketer.
Hi Pattoe,
Sorry to hear about what's happening :( ... somewhat been in it before ~_~ . I don't know if this guy really applies, but he's the only one that comes to mind for now... Austin Heap. Back during the Iran freedom movement in 2009, he approached a bunch of investors and got funding buy a bunch of servers and to develop some software for the folks over in Iran. Seems like he's changed changed a bit since then, unfortunately (and has trimmed his hair, too, I think - maybe), but back then had long hair as he went about his endeavors. Photo attached.....
Sincerely,
Eric
By the way, would you mind posting a picture of your hair - see how bad the situation is :) ???
Ian Rogers, the CEO of Topspin, had long hair for many years (he just got it cut this year :/ )...
Sincerely,
Eric
Tell them about Thomas Jefferson one of the presidents and forefathers of our country (USA)He had braided hair down to his hips! You can find a statue of him and his long hair in Washington DC! He was a successful professional man!
Birdman
Do you have a source for that? I know he had long hair
but i've never heard that he had hair that long.
I got this information from a past posting of this hyperboard.
but it is possible that I could be wrong

I seem to remember that Bob Geldof had a ponytail when he was at his most successful.
Jonathan Schwartz was the long-haired president and CEO of Sun Microsystems before it was acquired by Oracle.
