I'm 27 and half. By the time I get my hair long I'll be about 28. I'm broke, unemployed, and I live with mom. I have no friends. I've had some close people die recently, including my mom. My life has been shit.
Now on to better things. I have big dreams and big goals. I might go back to college. I might be a mechanic. I'm having trouble getting a job, and I know growing my hair out will just make it worse. Here's the thing.
One of my dreams, is to start a band. I've been making music my entire life. I compose songs all the time, in my room. I want to b a songwriter, and I am also an artist. The whole long hair thing, is not an attempt to satisfy a superficial image. In fact, I think bringing back long hair to the stage is what the doctor ordered.
As someone mentioned earlier, a lot of rock and roll, pop singers are clean cut. I guess I'd liken myself to something along the lines of pink floyd, the rolling stones, hendrix, ect. (THat's my styel)
My point being. This is a serious dream and this is real. Even though, I know most likely I wont be famous, I know that I can produce some pretty damn quality music, and put on some excellent shows. This is a long term goal of mine, and I have been planning it for years. I have started bands in the past, but they weren't my long term goal.
I am very serious about this. You think I'm delusional or too old? Thanks for reading.
Keep in mind: I have to find something, "Long-hair" friendly that will pay the bills. ANyone have an ideas? Construction, Starbucks, Guitar center. Any places, that will hire a long hair guy? I appreciate all the input.
Well lets see........at the age of 70 Paul McCartney would
probably say no you're not to old.
Same with Ringo Starr who is 71.
same with Mick Jagger who is 68.
So at the ago ef 27 your options are unlimited.
Hi TheCiscoKid,
Don't feel down, I respect 'ya. I'm 31 and right now and unemployed myself in the second lowest-unemployed metropolitan area in the U.S. :p . Three-four-five, whatever it was years devoted my heart to my job and they let me go because of budget cuts. A kick in the side... "Sorry, we like 'ya but here's the door." Oh well, the past's the past and the present is the present. So no job :p ... but not really looking, either, because I'm determined to see my dreams through - something that wasn't possible a year ago :) .....
Right now I have a window of a couple of months to try to get my home-business running up enough to pay for the home loan. It may not work by the end of August, but I'm going to bust off my but to try to make it happen for my family :D . At the same time, I'll be able to take care of my little girl which I wasn't able to before :) (couldn't afford daycare on both of our salaries :/ ). Will it work? Who knows, but at least I'm trying for my dream... be my own boss ^_^ (and if worst comes to worst, I can find a back-up plan, hopefully :p ~)!
So what I'm trying to say is I think you should go and try to do whatever you think is right. Grow out your hair! Get a band! Get famous! Travel the world!... because you won't know whether you'll be able to do it unless you try ^_~ !
Give it a go and see what happens :D . All the best to 'ya ^^ !
Sincerely,
Eric
By the way, you and I sound a bit the same in philosophy, maybe :p ~
Also, check out the YouTube link - if you can relocate, think about doing. A few nice longhairs in it, too :D !
Life is good here (YouTube)...
As a teenager, most of the bands I listen to have an average age of over 30. Maybe because their albums have been proven by time, or they have good music. As long as you don't try playing anything trendy, you should be fine.
If you're good with people, you could always start with being a music teacher now. Otherwise, as someone who has been in the computer field, you could always test your luck at a computer startup. You might be changing your job every year, but if you establish connections and a reputation, you can easily move from one job to another. Most companies won't make any prejudices because you have a ponytail if you're looking for a programming job.
(In a twist of irony, I'm having multiple jobs over the summer, and I could say that I'm making more money than the "more professional looking" short haired guys.)
Well you are never too old to start a band. I am 37 and have my own metal band, I play guitar. Started 1 year ago. Mostly cover songs, but we do get paid to play at parties, with all we can eat and drink. About work, I have spent the laast five years working on movie sets as s production assistant. My hair is down to my ass. You can have your hair sny way you want, they actually like it because you look really cool on the set, especially if you wear all black. To find your first job go to craigslist and go to gigs. Under gigs click on crew. This is where the movie and film industry finds production assistants. Take any first job, even if no pay as an intern to get your feet wet. Go to youtube and watch a video on how to be a production assistant. After awhile you will have them callimg you, and making $150-$600 per day. My last job I got to work with johnny depp in new mexico on THE LONE RASNGER, $500/day. Now I work for the Army, and my hair is to my ASS. Good luck u will make it,
The only person who can answer that question is you.
If you think you've got what it takes to be a successful musician, go for it. You'll never achieve anything if you just sit in your room surfing the Internet.
Anyone who adds a half on the end of their age isn't old!
I used to sing in a band. My voice is not as good as it was, but I'm twice your age.
Most never make it big. I didn't. OTOH, my songwriting skills might leave something to be desired.
