4-1/2 years old, with just a couple of slight trims along the way. He recently joined his big sister's Native dance troupe, and is learning to be a grass dancer. Hair was damp when the picture was taken, and the rainbow-colored hair ties match the Ojibwe regalia he wears.

Hi Val,
I've never seen braiding and hair-ties combined in such a unique way -- very clever, and your son has awesome hair to boot!
Braiding hair when still damp is what i tend to do, too, as I find it makes it easier to make the end result neater and cleaner-looking.
Hope you and your family are having a great summer so-far, Val!
Take Care,
Ken

His hair looks good. Do be gentle with putting ties on wet hair to avoid breakage.

Just amazing Val, your kids are so lucky that they have an understanding Mum and Dad who respect and encourage their individuality.
Hi Val, what a great picture:)It's refreshing to see a young boy enjoying his long hair and what a cool braid too!Hopefully as he gets older he will still enjoy the hair as it may be tougher the older he gets due to peer pressure. However if he wants it bad enough I'm sure he'll have his responses to any naysayers;)Anyway thanks for sharing as that is a day brightener.Cheers

Cool!
I am so glad your son has a Dad like you, a Father who will never even consider coercing his son into getting a haircut against his wishes.
he's a lucky kid! some kids don't have any choice in the matter when it comes to their own hair and have parents who insist that they wear their hair short even well into their teenage years!
I am sure your son will grow up to have high self-confidence and will not allow criticism of his long hair bother him.
hopefully, by the time he is an adult the majority of people will be very tolerant towards longer hair on Men regardless of profession or background and view long hair on Men in regard to way they currently view it on women-as a style choice and nothing more.
Hi Val,
Man, you're son's hair is looking great :D ! At the pow-wow I was at I remember seeing the grass dance - it was pretty cool :) . Your son's hair - three or four years now? Also, I don't see many scragglies on top of his head... is it because his hair is damp or does he because he just takes that good care of it :p ???
His hair is looking really good, please tell him to keep it up if he wishes ^_^ .....
Sincerely,
Eric
Thanks to all of you for your kind and encouraging words (and thanks also to the MLHH member who sent the cool pow-wow video... good stuff!).
