Hey all,
Going on a vacation out to Colorado here in a few days with the WHOLE family @_@ (cue Chinese fire drill x 275% >< ~)... what's the best way to wear your hair while swimming :o ???
Thanks in advance ^^ !
Sincerely,
Eric
Wearing it down looks the coolest, but a braid, ponytail, or half-tail would also work just fine. Be sure to wash and thoroughly condition it afterwards.
Have fun! :)

I think the only rule is to keep your chin up when you surface so it goes down your neck instead of in your face. The only long haired folks with swimming issues, as far as I know, are those with bleach blonde hair, which can turn greenish from chlorine. I doubt that anyone here has that issue, though.
I prefer to keep it down. I can't stand swimming with my hair tied back in any way. For me, it just doesn't feel right in the water. And the water can spin your hair around the ties, pulling your hair out when you go to let it down. And trying to take out ties from wet hair (remember your hair will stay wet a lot longer if it's tied back) is just a pain in the neck.
If it's not in a chlorinated pool, I usually just leave it loose. If you are swimming in chlorinated water, I'd suggest braiding it and wetting the hair first. That way, it doesn't absorb as much chlorine.
When i used to swim with long hair in chlorinated pools, i would just let it loose, wet it thoroughly before and after and thoroughly condition it with a cheap no-nonsense conditioner afterwards. Never had any problems with it :)
I think chlorine makes your hair dry enough, so there's no need to shampoo afterwards, unless you really feel like it.
I went to ireland last year, and every hotel required everyone to wear a swim cap no exceptions. I kept my swimcaps, and now proudly wear and display the name of the irish hotels that give them out, here in the states. There is noloose strans of hair floating in irishpools, and my hair never touche chlorine. I
Hey,
Thank you much to Validus, Gene W, Jarvis, Viking, AbstraKCt and Piratemale for the great advice ^_^ (you can see how close I get to water in the middle of this great continent of ours ~_~ ). I was initially going to go along with the wet-loose hair route until I saw the last post, Piratemale's, and about loose hair floating which I can imagine >< .
Target sells these long-hair swim caps (Speedo brand :p ~) for not too much money:

...will give it a try ^_~ . Not an Olympic swimmer, but heck :p ~
Thanks all again ^^ !

Eric
Bought the cap today... it was too tight, going to return it, don't recommend this one brand ~_~ . Going back to Plan B - let loose and wet :p . Thanks again everyone ^_^ !
