Dear Members of this Board,
Do you think it is right (proper) for a man of my age (54) to have long hair??? When I shower it (my hair) "tickles" the top of my butt, It is silvery grey in color and i have a BIG full beard which is all white, as well. I look forward to your comments... BTW I have always wanted long hair
Thanks Guys!

I'm 57 years old and I would say absolutely. But then
I started growing my hair long in 1964.
I also have a lot of grey hair, i'll be keeping all that grey hair
grey since i've earned all that grey hair.
Why do you think you shouldn't? :)
I'm young, just 19, but I really love seeing older people with long grey hair in the streets! It still looks good. And yeah, I see such people so seldom that every time I meet them, I think of how special they are. How free they are. And sometimes, how young they are, despite all the greyish in the hair :)
And you hair also looks good!
Hell yeah it's right. Everyone looks better with long hair.
its your decision and yours alone. if you like it, keep it.

Let's see, my hair reaches my knees and I am 59 years old. I never had hair shoulder length or longer until past age 40. Long hair on males is alright at any age. Oh, I almost forgot to mention the longest hairs in my beard are 17" long. I sometimes ponytail it.
Again, try not to be self conscious about your hair and/or beard. Age is just a number.
Scott
I agree! If you like your hair long, then age should not be a factor in growing it long. Unless of course, you are bald.
yes = it is extremely appropriate = we are the only species to grow long hair on our heads = it is to be celebrated = a brilliant design ... beautiful hair btw cheers CEM
If you were looking for someone to talk you out of your long hair, boy did you come to the wrong place, LOL.
I'm pushing 50, with hair long enough to sit on, and plan on wearing it to my own funeral. Like others who've replied previously, I didn't start growing mine out 'til I was almost 40.
It's about what makes you happy in your own skin. It's your head, and your hair. Do what you want with it.

I started growing my hair in 1964 when I was 10.
It will remain long until the day I day.
Proper?? not quite sure what that means tbh
I will be honest (as a woman).. I like it (why be boring).. :)
Why not? I'm the same age you are and I have long hair.
I will turn 61 next month and I began growing my hair about three years ago. It's at lower back length now. I plan to keep it that way.
Steve
Beautiful!
Myself, approaching 50 and have 3ft of hair and 2ft of beard. I usually keep the hair in a braid and the beard in two braids.

That sounds awesome Oren
Greetings to a fellow maritimer!
By all means, keep your hair long, and you have an outstanding mane. I will be 59 in a couple of weeks, and I have long hair (not as long as yours, though I wish it were longer), and have no intention of cutting mine.
Keep it growing,
David
I look forward to your comments... BTW I have always wanted long hair

Re "right" and "proper"? From a fellow Canuck, yes!! Your hair looks very good indeed. I'm 70, and just moving from salt-pepper to medium-grey. My hair is casually short on top with full back 'n sides at ear-top height, just like Bobby Kennedy. I'd have a while to get to your length ... if my social environment (Aylmer, QC) doesn't interfere. It's unlikely, though, that I'd live long enough for that event.
Hi Barbarian!
Yes, yes, yes, longhair is permissible on men of any age in spite of what the shorthaired population says about it.If you enjoy it, keep it as that's what I do my friend:)Welcome aboard!Cheers.

I think it is great to grow your long if it makes you feel good at any age. I'm 81 and my hair is white and at mid back. It is growing real slow now but I am real happy with it. Tommie
WOW !!! = I hope to have long silver hair @ age 81 too ... lets see how things pan-out, shall we ... Cheers Cem. :))
If YOU have always wanted long hair what difference does it make what people think, no matter what your age.
I think the issue of it being "right" or "proper" or any of that BS should be irrelevant. How you grow (or don't grow) your body hair shouldn't make any difference to anyone but yourself!
For reference, my hair is just past my knees, and I live where the vast majority of attention I receive over it is positive.
wow that is greats i love it! Sounds like you really do to!
I find this news totally SHOCKING!!!
To think that you, a man who is of the mature age of 54, has hair that looooooong, I can't believe it. Is it "right" (proper)? Well, the only way I know how to answer that question is by narrating (very self-righteously) my own much better example:
I have hair of approximately the same length as you describe; but, as far as my age goes... I turn 59 tomorrow! [wink!]

Hi and welcome!
Of course it's right to have long hair at any age, and yours is tremendous - for any age !!!
Superb long hair :)
Dave
I'm 57 and have hair as long as yours. Of course it's right!
Men and women of any age should have the choice to have their hair any way they want and not be harassed about it.
Bruce
Barbarian,
Why wouldn't it be proper??? That's kind'a like that old argument that some women like to say about when they turn 40 they should automatically begin to wear black dresses, etc. Why? What for??! It's (nice way of saying it:) not so smart to limit yourself to something because of a certain age. Age is meaningless to the great circle of life... when your time comes, it comes - so enjoy life while you have it :p !
Sincerely,
Eric
Looks great - age isn't important
