I have passed my goal of mid-back hair,
I find myself constantly thinking about terminal length BOTH for my hair and beard.....
Hi there Mr. Barbarian,
I can totally relate to what you just said -- in fact, you'll find that there are a lot of us here whose goal is to see and experience what terminal length is for ourselves.
If you click on my avatar pic (the little portrait photo in the corner), it will take you to my website pages that have hair pics that were taken of me in '04, the photographer being our own Bill Choisser (another long-time member here, also former Moderator and Tech Wizard Extraordinaire). Both my hair & beard have grown a lot since then, my hair currently being at belt-length now; but my longer, shaggier beard being only a more recent accomplishment.
My commitment to growing my hair out as looooooong as possible was a direct result of feeling inspired by how much I hated my last short haircut (LOL, although that is actually the truth!!)...
I'm not QUITE as committed (yet) about growing my beard out to terminal length, though -- I'm still mulling that idea around and around inside my head right now.
However, without a doubt, you'll find plenty of guys here who will give you lots of encouragement & support re. your terminal length goals (BOTH over your beard, as well as of course, over the hair on your head).
Re. dealing with split ends (if you have them)...
I used to have an inch or so trimmed off the bottom of my mane every year, for example; but the more I wanted to experience true "terminal length", the more I turned to using the infamous "Search & Destroy" method of chasing after individual split ends, snipping them off with scissors whenever I find 'em.

During the 1980s I grew my hair to terminal length, which was
knee length. I found it a hassle to take care of, got in the
way when i'd ride my bike, mountain climb, etc.
I finally got aggravated with it, cut it back to waist length which
i've determined to be my ideal length.
Cool! I've always wished to achieve knee-length myself; but I'm not at all surprised that such an extreme length would eventually become a hassle.
I'm enjoying belt-length right now, and my hair still appears to be growing; but OMG, is it ever growing slllow-w-w-wly.... (which is why I'm guessing that I must be very close to terminal length)..."
The other day I checked the back of my head and noticed yes, it is indeed 'tickling" the top of my butt. This was even confirmed when I took a shower & shampooed yesterday and felt an unfamiliar feeling in the same location.
"Terminal length or bust!" should be my new motto... On the other hand, I don't relish the thought of whatever "bust" means (LOL)!

While I went for terminal length for my hair when I had
a beard i kept it fairly short, especially when I was mountain
climbing for many days at a time. I found it alot more difficult to keep the beard clean than the hair. Although the beard came in handy when I was in the mountains for a number of days at a time, (i.e. not having to bother shaving.)
Don't get me wrong, it was great having knee length hair but it
was too difficult to take care of, and it was to easy
to get hair damage. But, ulitmately YMMV, you should go for
terminal length to find out what is your ideal length.
...And why not, looking awesome there dude!
Cheers Dave
Great looking head of hair and beard! I've been growing both hair and beard terminal.
I just measured a whisker today that got snagged on some box tape. It was 25.5 inches long.
