Seeing that many of you are into different styles of Metal music and always put emphasis on guys with long hair who are in these bands how about Some type of Hair Metal band(no, not those 1980s Glam Metal bands), but a band whose song lyrics embrace the concept of long hair, growing long hair, and sing songs about historical male figures with long hair and put out a positive message about Long Haired Men.
in other words, like a Hair Religion(oops there I go again! lol)
I think it would be a great concept to have some sort of Metal band with various influences singing about this topic and no, not like in the 1960s musical "Hair" , but something long haired Men and their supporters could relate to.
what do you think? maybe some of you here who play an instrument, compose songs, or are currently in a band might consider this or do you think it's a completely asinine idea?
Eh..it sounds like a farfetch'd idea to be honest. Not to stereotype but it sounds like only a topic suited to the realm of the 60s psychadelic rock or country someties. MAYBE a single song with subtle underlying themes but coming from a metalhead's standpoint I don't think it would be an interesting concept.
DAD- I won't cut my hair
George Thorogood- get a haircut and get a real job
Nuclear Assault- long haired asshole
There are more but their names escape me at the moment.
It's funny about the Nuclear Assault bit since John got his hair cut. That being said, I'll have to check out that song.
you beat me to these, but here's a few from teh C&W genre -
Austn Lounge Lizards - Get a Haircut Dad
Charlie Daniels Band - Long-Haired Country Boy
David Allan Coe - Long Haired Redneck
and as jarvis said, there's more...
"Why don't you get a haircut and get a real job"
i get a kick out of these lyrics considering I have a real job
and also have had long hair for a number of years now.
In my experience, music doesn't work that way. You can't start with a concept and develop a band with music to match. Musicians generally just love music and begin playing for the sheer joy of it. They eventually join others they get along with and settle into a genre to create music based on whatever inspires them at the time. Trying to base all music for a band on a single topic is more like a homework assignment and would seem to remove the enjoyment from the process. I'm not saying a musician can't be inspired by long hair, but it seems unlikely that it would become the main focus of any particular band.
