The last few months I was styling my hair with gel.
Recently I stopped styling my hair and just let it do it's own thing and I love it.
Only during my shower I comb it, after that just let it air dry and do nothing until the next shower. I discovered this after a year of growing my hair, during the first year of growing out I always combed and it didn't look very good. If I don't comb my hair it forms very nice spirals and all sorts of flips and curls.
The first time growing out, I was only focused on the end goal of super long hair and I didn't enjoy the growing out proces. This time around I don't even know how long I will grow it and if I will keep it long. Just letting it grow and enjoy the proces and see what length I really like.
I realize now that super long hair (longer that shoulder blades) is not my thing, I like the looks of it but I don't like the haircare that comes with it. I will probably grow my hair out to shoulder length and maybe a bit longer and switch between the two. This is a nice compromise between too short and too long. That way you still got long hair but not all the hassle.
I like the look, Vincent.

Thanks Walter :)
Hello Vincent: Your hair looks great it has a fuller look to it now that it is shorter, very nice it compliments your great looks.
Tom(Hairboy)
Hi Tom,
Yes without the added weight of the longer hair, my hair does have a lot more volume. Thanks for the compliment!

Your hair looks wild and crazy right now, Vincent. Added length will fix that. I think your hair looks best at the length you had in your avatar photo. It was long, but not super long. Shoulder blade length is relatively easy to care for. (Mine reaches my knees, and is a lot of work to care for. This is especially true for me when washing and drying.)
Scott
Yes, my hair is very wild. But I like it that way. Once it will be longer the added weight of the hair will reduce this. Thanks for your opinion Scott, I liked the length in my avatar picture as well.
Hi Vincent,
Thanks for the update as your hair is really taking on a life of its own!
Obviously it's your choice how long you wish to maintain it and even around shoulder length it'll look long.I always liked your longer hair of the past but that's
just my opinion. At least your growing it out and that's what counts my friend.Cheers

Hi Mark,
Yes, I thought it was worth an update with a change like this.
I like the look of the longer hair as well, but I don't like the haircare that comes with it. Yup well on my way back the being a longhair :)
Well, long or short, you have great hair. It's thick with a very nice wave pattern.
I thoroughly enjoyed the growing out process and didn't really mind the awkward stage. I have no desire to go through it again because I don't ever want to have short hair again but I thought the process itself was quite fun.
If I could could grow my hair to super-lengths and have it be healthy to the ends, I would. I've pretty much decided that I value health over just length so I think trimming will be my routine. It's now been 2+ months since my 7.5 inch cut and my ends are still feeling pretty good but I'll probably get a touch-up soon.
It's great that you're enjoying your hair.
Thanks Jason!
I discovered too that the growing out process can be fun, but it depends on your state of mind. I can understand you don't want to go through it again.
I also like healthy ends, but I was lucky I could grow it super long with healthy end. I'm very happy I've had it but but length once in my life. I did a similar cut as you about a year ago, to get rid of my fairytale end and have a straight hemline and I really liked the results.
At some point the hair get's less thick, imho it looks better to have shorter thicker hair then longer hair but thin at the ends.
Yup, I've missed this very much. When my hair was superlong I just dreaded all the haircare and couldn't enjoy it as much. Now I do!
Hi Vincent, your hair looks fine, and the randomness is fun, I know that for sure, as I have chaotic hair at every stage. The awkward stage was never awkward for me!
Cheers Dave
Hey Dave,
Thanks, unpredictable hair is very fun. Your hair is always wild and I really like that look. Nice way to put it!
Hi Vincent,
I wish I would of seen this post in my early growth stages, because I ended up wearing a bandanna all the time of my first year of hair growth. Still, you inspire me to cherish my own natural texture since in American society the "straight hair" fad is in and the curly/wurly hair textured was in fad around the 80's. I don't know, it always goes back and forth, and I wish there are more people like you that stand up to be an individual and a free thinker. I have to say that after joining this board I've learned to accept my own natural hair texture, and to continue to fight to be an individual where society cannot dictate what "style" I should do to my hair.
thanks,
rowie
Hi Rowie,
It's never to late to change your hairstyle and stop fighting your natural texture. An added bonus is that it's better for your hair :)
The first time growing out I tried to keep it neat as well, but I like it a lot better this way.
Glad I can help and inspire you, that's what this board is all about!
Vincent
Hi Vincent,
My apologies for being so late to reply to your post, and I am happy to see you stop on by. A "little bit wild" is good in my opinion, and your hair has a lot of thickness. Good luck with your new hair growing journey, and I hope to see you stop on by the hyperboard more often!
Take care, and keep it growing,
David
Hi David,
I always check my own post for replies, so no worries about replying late.
Yup thick hair is in my family. Thanks and I try to post an update every month.
Vincent
Hi Vincent,
Sorry for the delayed response to your message. I am glad you posted this photo. It shows me that everybody has to go through the shaggy stage to get our long hair. I do like your hair better at the longer length. Maybe you can just grow it to just below your shoulders. I don't put any product in my hair; I just let it do it's thing naturally.
Take care and enjoy your growing out phase.
Ted

Jup the shaggy stage is part of growing it long, but I really like my hair atm.
I will see what I do, I will grow it long as long as I like it.
