Hi all,
I was curios to know if pulling hair back into a pony tail daily and for long periods of time will damage my hair. I usually keep my hair pulled back during most of the day and take it out at night. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks all. I'm hoping to get some updated pics up soon. I've reached the 18 month mark without a haircut.
Take care.
As long as your using proper pony tail holders, and the are not to tight. You don't want to feel any pulling or headaches. Otherwise, you should be fine. Never use rubber bands.

Reasonably OK if not too tight and you use correct ties not rubber bands. However let it down whenever your can to minimise time in tail.
Here in the UK, I have found a brilliant pony tail tie from Claires.
They are made from a softer version of a neoprene type of material. There are no joins at all and is made in a tube-form.
Using any kind of tie in hair has the potential to damage it, even if you are careful. However leaving long hair loose can also leave it open to tangling so a ponytail is fine, comfortable and convenient provided you don't tie it too tight and take the elastic out carefully.
The amount of damage can vary depending on your type of hair-- and how thick your hair is, of course. I have fine hair and ties are pretty rough on it. The only kind I use are those fat knitted cloth ties. Absolutely avoid those tight little elastic ties with the brass joint. Those are about as bad as rubber bands.
