Our civil war group had it's National Encampment in
Los Angelee this past weekend. It went very well.
There were two of us guys with long hair, I wore my hair
down, the other guy had his in a braid. I got absolutely
no complaints about my hair. (It should be noted both
of us guys with long hair had hair that was longer than
any of the women in the Allied Orders. I thought of wearing
it in a pony tail or braided but it opted to wear it down
and ***not***** hide my long hair.
We did get to see some of the civil war sigths in California
like Drum Barracks and the GAR highway (Route 6). It's sad to
note how much of the history from the Civil War is gone forever.
I did find the weather in California to be too warm, and was
surprised at how few restaurants had air conditioning, how crowded and bad the traffic is, and did I mention how hot it was?
I would mention all this about the history of the Civil War
being gone should serve as a warning for the future, the day
may come where our history for the Revolutionary war,
World War 1, World War 2, Viet Nam, 9/11 may also be gone if
we don't take steps now to preserve that history. And that
preservation should start with the Civil War, and the Revolutionary War.
This inspires me to burst into song:
Hurrah! Hurrah! We bring the Jubilee.
Hurrah! Hurrah! The flag that makes you free,
So we sang the chorus from Atlanta to the sea,
While we were marching through Georgia.
That is one of the songs the band played Saturday night
at the banquet.
