Hi all! Actually, it's 37 months today, last trim was November 2010. So sorry for my infrequent/lack of updates!
The pictures (taken today):
Seems to take forever but it is much longer that around a year ago. I sort of thought it would be at mid back by now, oh well.
It is longer when wet.
The back:
Here's how I keep it out of the way when I'm working around the house:
And here's how I'd love to wear it all the time if I could. It was really, really windy here today in the Blue Mountains (Australia) but I like the look!
For comparison, next pic was about 1 year ago:
Finally, below is a picture from Nov 2010, my last trim which made it all one length. So I guess it grows fairly fast after all. Just not fast enough!
I won't clog up your internet connections anymore, there is a link to my photobucket site in this message. if you wish to see more.
I plan on getting my hair a minor trim early next year, nothing as drastic as the Nov 2010 pic above, there are some split ends and the oldest, longest hair is brittle, that would be my "bangs" which have never had a trim since July 2009, so that they would catch up with the rest of my hair when I started growing it then-I wanted for the all one length look.
Also my hair tangles very easily, and I wasn't very nice to it early on with using gel, and also colouring my hair(which is still visible-semi permenent my butt!), so the oldest ends are not the best now as above. I only wash, and condition once a week and wear a ponytail to work.
Take care all and will try and get involved more often.

Hi Matt T.,
I have to say your hair looks stunning and the thickness is enviable my friend.I think your growth rate seems fine and the quality looks good to from what I can tell from your pics.So be proud of the fact you have such a nice mane and take care of it the best you can.If I could I'd love to wear my hair loose 24/7 but sadly that's not practical. So it's loose when at leisure, tailed for workouts at the gym,up in a baseball cap for work,or in a lazy bun all other times:) Great update and never feel bad about posting lots of pictures;)Have a fantastic day!Cheers
Mârk
Cheers Mark, hmm this gym thing sounds like a good idea ;-) Thanks for the compliments!
Hi Matt T.,
Your hair looks fantastic, Matt. It is really thick and full. Waiting for your hair to grow is like watching paint dry. it seems to take forever, but well worth it.
Scott
Thanks Scott,
I sometimes wish I could fast forward the next 2 years to see how long it gets!

Hi Matt,
Great pics, great hair!!!
Also, a bit off-topic, but definitely worth mentioning...
I totally LOVE the outdoor photography. Besides the fact that it's more flattering lighting for hair pics (my opinion, at least), it is also really cool to get a "flavor" of where someone lives.
I went to Australia with my brother, sister-in-law & nephew in '95 I think it was, just fell in love with your country. It was in April -- so amazing to go from spring here in California to autumn in Melbourne, Perth, & Sidney. Parts of it looked very similar to CA, in fact, probably because CA many years ago imported and planted a ton of your gum trees (which Californians tend to call them by their Latin name, Eucalyptus)... In any case, besides admiring your amazingly thick mane, it was fun to also see the bare winter trees in your yard, as well as the tall gum trees in the distance in your photos!
Keep up with the excellent hair-farming job!!

Thanks Ken,
In case anyone missed the photobucket link in my original post, the big tree I am in front of is called a Pussywillow here, and is a noxious weed! I just liked the shape of it it looks like it's about to fall over, all on a weird angle with big roots growing out into the ground on one side to anchor itself.
Lucky it's a rental I don't need to worry about the local council busting me.
Cheers,

Hi Matt,
Fabulous thick wavy hair. I also have to undo my tangles every day. If I dont, I may have to cut into the knots to loosen them, then pull apart. Part of the problem is raised cuticles on the hair strands. They're like little velcro hooks all down the length of a strand, and they grip onto each other which tangles the hair. The alpha hydroxys in Maxi Wash will buff them right off and leave your hair nice and smooth.
I only wash and condition once a week also. Lets the natural oils out. I do routine maintenance trims, to remove the split ends when I see them. Or else the split in the hair shaft will move upwards making it necessary to cut even more off. The overall hair appearance looks much smoother with the split ends removed.
Don
Cheers Don, I wonder if you can get Maxi Wash in Australia. I'll look up alpha hydroxis and see what I can find.
Thanks,
MattT
Hi Don,
I found the Maxi Wash, it's available here in Aus for about $32.00 a bottle, quite pricey but I will give it a try! Cheers,
MattT
Wow Matt: You have beautiful hair most men and women would give an arm and a leg to have hair like yours, I'm sure you must get plenty of compliments. Tom
Hi Tom, thanks, I get some compliments, then people telling me I could sell it (always Women) and then some people who say they like it then ask when I will be cutting it, or they look at it and ask if I'm growing it long then ask why, people are bizarre!
I tell them I'm in my mid thirties (OK late thirties), I currently have a job where they will tolerate my hair, and this may well be my last chance to have long hair in my lifetime that I can be happy with (ie thick and healthy) given that with my family history in another 10 years or so things should be getting quite a lot thinner on top.
Cheers,
MattT
Hey MattT,
That's some pretty fine and dandy hair you've got :D !... looks like you take pretty good care of it and hardly pull a strand out, either ^_~ . Really full in a ponytail :o ! Just curious, how often do you wash your hair???
Keep it growin' ^^ !
Sincerely,
Eric
Ha Thanks Eric, I wash once a week, usually lose a heap when I wash it but no more than anyone else, about 30-40 that I can see sometimes more sometimes less. I detangle each night with my big detangler comb then brush it out (gently). By the end of each week the brush is pretty hair covered! As it gets longer it's starting to eat up more and more of my Saturday, especially in Winter, takes about 6 hours or more to dry. Just a small price of long hair!
MattT
Looking just great Matt!
- Oren
Cheers Oren!
..that is some serious hair after three years.
Congratulations and Thanks for Sharing
WWT
Thanks Walter, it seems to be more serious on the big side than the long side, sort of like my middle is seriously wide instead of seriously ripped!
Hi Matt,
What a fantastic and THICK head of hair you are blessed with, and thank you for sharing such an outstanding update. Keep up the good work!
Keep it growing,
David
Thanks David for the kind words, will keep growing just to see what happens at this point and also from all the effort put in so far. I got this far once before so not wasting the opportunity to go further.
Cheers,
MattT
Hi Matt,
I really like the way your hair is growing out. You have had some serious growth for three years! The color is awesome and I like the way the back is kind of in a U shape at the bottom. Please don't trim too much off! I really enjoyed your Photobucket pics. I wish I lived in Australia-I am envious:) Please keep growing and updating!
Take care, Ted
Cheers Ted, not planning on trimming until next year anyway, so will see how it looks by then!
MattT
Matt, Your hair is looking fantastic. Wonderful color and texture. Thanks for the update!
peace, jonalbear
Cheers! Yours is looking great too, may I add :)
MattT
Excellent shots, Matt. The thickness is amazing. You should be proud.
My hair seems to be a little longer than yours, but with nowhere near the thickness.
Keep up the good work.
Steve
Hey Steve, thanks!
MattT
That's good looking healthy hair. The one I like was when you put your hair up in a bun (I picked that one picture). I do wear a bun periodically, usually in formal events so I look nice, or when I am playing sports so my hair do not get in my eyes.
Matthew
Cheers Matt,
I'm looking for new ways to do the bun, it's really just the ponytail only half pulled throughthe second loop around of the hairband if you follow, so pretty lazy the way I do it. I'd love to be able to braid or do a different type of bun but my fingers are just no good at it
Cheers,
MattT
Hey !
Congratulation my friend, that's a nice update.
Keep it growing !
François
Hi there, thanks!
A while back you mentioned you would get a trim, how did that go? I think you mentioned you got a light undercut too, I have the same problem the hair at the back of my neck, it tangles sreally easily and always snag up on the comb.
Cheers,
MattT
Hey, sorry for the late reply.
Still haven't do the trim, but i redid the undercut a little bit higher, it's a really cool thing, it makes my hair easier to maintain.
I will make an update soon and i will tell more about it.
Cya
François
No worries,
I was thinking of getting an undercut myself, not too high though.
Take care,
MattT
