I tried Jojoba Oil for the first time this weekend. Within 10 minutes I began developing hives and started slipping into anaphylactic shock! I was taken to the hospital for injections of Epinephrine and Diphenhydramine to stop the allergic reaction the Jojoba Oil caused.
It's too bad. I actually like the results I got. I guess I'll have to look for something else.

That is really scary. You want to get that oil out of your house and dispose of it. Hopefully it is not in any of your clothing or other personal items.

I never heard of this happening before. Hmm, sorry this took place!
Try Virgin Coconut oil, cold pressed and unrefined, I think its better really good results
WOW, that's terrifying. That's the first time I've ever heard of anything like that; but definitely not an oil I'm going to recommend to anyone anymore because of that story!
Nowadays I've been using Olive oil on my hair ends -- and have been VERY happy with the results... Give that oil a try. If it's good enough to cook with or pour on your salad, it's good enough for your hair -- and definitely NOT something I've ever heard anyone having any kind of allergic reaction to!

Wow, that's really awful. I am glad that you are ok now. Allergies for certain people can come out of nowhere and it has always been this way. I had a cousin allergic to his own sweat and he was taking like about 6 showers a day.
Probably best to stick with just Shampoo and Conditioner. You will still end up with great looking long hair.
Take care-
Justin~
Wow. It's disappointing to see this. Jojoba is one of the coolest things I ever learned about on this site. Googling around, I ran across some other forums where people also experienced jojoba reactions.
I was not able to find any information on prevalence of this allergy. I was able to find a long list of things to which people are allergic, such as garlic, tree nuts, peanuts, latex, etc.
I won't stop telling people about jojoba; but from now on I'll probably advise them that they could be one of the unlucky people that might be allergic. Apparently, if you are allergic to tree nuts you are not likely to be allergic to jojoba. However, I found no source to indicate the two allergies are mutually exclusive. Pure chance would tell us that getting struck by both "lightnings" would be rare.
Jojoba is a bit of a niche product. The fact that there isn't much info on allergies might simply tell us that there hasn't been a lot of research. The prevalence might turn out to be comparable to other allergies. So. We really don't know how likely it is that a randomly selected individual will have this reaction. This community itself is a fairly small sample though, so the fact that we've run across one out of a few hundred people who use this site (just guessing on that) is cause for concern.
Are there any documented olive oil allergies? I've tried that before and the only side effect was that my hair smelled like pizza for a few minutes.
We now return to our regularly scheduled lurking...
I would definitely say my reaction is rare. I didn't google it like you did, so I didn't know there were others.
I wouldn't want to discourage anyone else from trying it, but would definitely advise caution. For the general population, it's a pretty inert product that gives most people good results. You can be allergic to anything, so one person's reaction to a product shouldn't automatically prompt others to avoid it.
That's not a good result! Glad you're OK though. An alternative would be sweet almond oil.
Hi Michael,
Gosh, I am genuinely sorry that this happened, and thank goodness that you got to the hospital quickly. Hopefully, you can find something else that works just as well for your hair without these side effects.
Take care,
David
