Hi all,
Well, some may know since late last year I've been taking a pretty good dose of biotin. Saw some pretty good results I think. Kept on taking it, too, until early this month when I found out it was having a bit of an adverse effect on my health.
Water weight gain >< !!! After I went off of it (cold turkey - sounds funny for a supplement, huh :p ?), I lost nearly 10 lbs. the next day or so. I was like, whoa @_@ !
Back mid-summer, I was having some trouble with my kidneys, too... wonder if that had something to do with it :o . The doctor thought it may have been a pill I was taking, but I have my suspicions :p ~
So for now, no more biotin for me >< ! Noticed that my skin has broken out more since then... but just wanted to give everyone a heads up - maybe there's a little water weight gain going on everywhere (or maybe it was just me :p )~
Sincerely,
Eric
Hi Eric,
Sorry to hear about your reaction to what seemed like a safe supplement to take.I've been using Biotin for awhile now and never experienced such a issue.I would have to ask how much Biotin were you taking daily?Believe me if that happened to me I'd stop immediately.Otherwise hope all is well with you my friend.Cheers.

Aah Mârk,
It's pretty embarrassing, honestly ~_~ ... I didn't know it was causing water retention until I stopped taking it, but then again I was going on pretty extreme doses :/ . I was doing 10mg for quite a long time, then I upped it to 15mg, then even tried 20 for a couple of days until I jumped back down to 15, then 10, then 0 after was having that problem with my scalp and I couldn't really rule anything else out. Then boom, lost 10 lbs. overnight @_@ !
Now I've read somewhere that larger doses of biotin is safe for not-so extended periods of times. Who knows, maybe it builds up in your body or something at high amounts after time...
I'm thinking about going back to it eventually at a small dose, but I'm going to tread carefully... my experiment with biotin has shown a result - don't overdo it ^_~ hah (no-duh)!~
Sincerely,
Eric
5000 mcg (that's MICROgrams) is considered a high dose, and that's only half of the lowest dose you'd been taking. Unless otherwise recommended by a physician for thinning/balding, I'd suggest that most people only take, at most, 1000 to 2000 mcg (1 to 2 mg) daily to reduce hair shedding and enhance overall health of hair, skin, and nails.

Yeah, that's why I say it's embarrassing ~_~ ... I wanted to see how tolerated it was since it is supposed to be such a safe vitamin/supplement. Both of my Doctors never said anything for half a year's time and every time I went in I was waiting for them to say something :p ...
Oh well, a learning experience and a bit of a surprise at the same time ^_~ .
Sincerely,
Eric
Hi Eric,
Sometimes we have to ask or tell the doctor something. It seems like I always have to remind the technicians at dialysis about how much fluid they can take off in one session. Can't always count on people-sad to say.
Take care, Ted
By "pretty good dose" you meant how much?
