Do any of you get trims to maintain your hair? I am talking after you have obtained your desired length. I wouldn't trim my hair at all, if I was going it out from short to long.

Hi Darrin,
This is just me but I decided many years ago when I was going to let my hair grow to terminal length I'd no longer have it trimmed. After all it wasn't going to get longer at that point so why trim the length. However if you find your ends are getting damaged due to your environment then of course you may want to trim the ends.Anyway hopes this helps:) Cheers

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for your responses. I will most likely trim just to maintain my goal length. My hair is currently at lower back length, and I can't see myself letting it get past belt length.

Darrin, I personally only trim individual hairs to rid it of damage or split ends unless I had already reached a goal length where I didn't want to grow any further longer hair. My goal is belt length which is nearly there and I would probably keep it maintained at that length. Trimming hair before your goal is reached only lengthens the time taken to get there.
cheers,
Duncan
I trim my hair to maintain it.
I trim off very little (Not even half an inch) every 6-8 months depending on how bad it is.
I get my ends trimmed about every 2-3 months routinely,my hair has always been fine & tangles very easily, trimming slows the length but it helps the look.
Your hair looks good We have similar color hairl

My hair used to be very blonde, although the last ten years it gotten darker. The photo is old.
Do you have a professional trim your hair? I am lucky to have a woman who does a really good job trimming mine.

Hey Darrin,
Yes I Do,A Very Dear Friend Cuts Trims My Hair, Shes Been Doing It For Almost Ten Years Now.
I just took a look at the Locks of Love website and elsewhere to see if I could determine who's running it and what's going on-- and, as expected, found very little except pitches about donating. As best as I can tell it's heavily supported by the hair salon industry, which has long had an obvious vested interest in anything that prompts people to wear shorter hair.
They do claim to be providing many needy individuals with wigs, but the details of the process appear non-existent. My policy with charities has always been to only donate to those you know and trust well and then give what you're comfortable with.
I personally don't trim for maintenance, but I did get one major 4-inch cut awhile back to make all my hair the same length. I had been struggling with massive tangles and was about to give up on long hair completely, but gave this extreme step a chance. It worked, and I still have my long hair, which is much healthier after the cut. I don't plan to ever cut it again, but there may come a time when it becomes necessary for similar reasons.
I have a friend at work that has long hair and moonlights as a magician who trims his hair regularly because he prefers his hair length at mid-back, while his terminal length is much longer.
It seems to be a matter of preference.
