Hi everybody...it's me again. Still growing the hair!
For a variety of reasons, I'm trying some pony tail styles, and I'm unable to get all of the hair into one tie right now. I tried two elastics one on top of the other, but I was warned that that's especially "feminine." So I took away the bottom one and fluffed out the hair that was left.
Does this make any sense, do people do it, does it look good, and if not, what should I do instead?
I'm not sure what you mean but i've tried lots of different
styles of pony tails/braids/pig tails (like Willie Nelson)/etc. As far as looking feminine, i'm 58 years old and don't really care what others think. I've worn my hair in a pony tail with a number of ties, in a high pony tail, a low pony tail and lots of other configurations depending on my mood.
As i've said, at 58 years old I don't care what others think. Besides in this part of New York my hair is longer than most
of the women here. So saying it's feminine is kind of stretching it. Most of the women around here have hair that
is exceptionally short while a number of us guys have longer hair.
Now I would caution you to use "no damage" ties, as elestics will damage the hair.
But the best way to see what looks best and what you prefer is
to experiment with a lot of different styles to see what you
prefer.
I like it, works well for keeping the hair out of your face,
Heya Dom. - personally I love ur hair in that style - just accept that long hair on a man - can be feminizing to some degree: ( @ times ) - ( depending on the person ) - however no one here: ( is not growing their hair ) - just 'cause on some days their hair may appear feminine due to angle, light or chosen style ... I've seen ur pix. & no-one cud mistake you for a girl ... so relax, N'Joy your masculinity & your great hair !!! cheers CEM. :)
Thanks for your encouraging responses so far, guys.
But perhaps it was my "feminine" comment that was bit misleading. I'm not worried about whether the pictured style is "feminine." That was just in reference to something else that I've vetoed. (The "one elastic on top of the other" thing.)
I'm really just wondering what you think about the style in the picture.
I'm not sure about anyone else but i'm puzzled by what you mean
by "one elastic on top of the other."
I can't tell from the photos what you're referring to.
Do yo9u mean having multiple ties on a pony tail?
I've worn my hair that way a number of times, i don't consider it
feminine.
As i've said before at the ripe old age of 58 I don't care
what others think. I wear my hair the way I want to.
If others don't like it they can go jump out the window.
As far as i'm concerned it is my hair and i'll wear it they
way I want when I want.
The same should go for your hair. It is your hair, it is
entirely your choice ss to how you wear it. ignore the idiots
who try to tell you otherwise.
I started growing my hair long in 1964, I've probably tried every style there is over the years, while keeping my long hair
long. I don't care if others consider a style feminine, it's my
hair and my choice.
Power to you for managing to tune out the crazies. I'm just about done with them, don't worry!
Anyway, in the picture you see just the top part tied back with one elastic, and the rest is just loose in the back. Not a lot of hair tied back, just pulling the front part over the top of my head basically.
The other style that I mention uses that first elastic the same way, as well as another one to tie up the rest of the hair (which ends up being the vast majority of it) lower down.
I use these styles because I'm unable to get all of my hair into one elastic.
Hi Dom,
I think you should warn people to keep their opinions to themseves. I believe these people are just envious of your hair. I just love the thickness and texture of your hair and hope you grow it out longer. Please don't listen to your detractors-what do they know. And what do you care.
Take care, Ted
You definitely don't look feminine. Don't worry. In fact when my hair was long as yours I used that style and it worked a lot for me. It's much as Connan hair style and it shows your face which is great. I like it very much! Keep it.
My hair is about the same length now, and just the bangs have an issue staying in a ponytail.
Some have told me that the half-ponytail looks rather "elvish", so it goes over great at renaissance festivals, mostly I just do a "regular" ponytail and either tuck the bangs/fringe behind my ears, or tuck it under the hair that is long enough to stay held by the elastic.
Good luck and have fun with the experimenting
