Hi, my name is John. I am 42 and growing my hair for the first time. I guess it might be a bit of a midlife crisis, but hey what are you going to do. I have actually thought about it before and finally decided to go for it a little over a year ago. My initial goal was a ponytail, for whatever reason that appeals to me more than a crazy mane. I talked to my wife about it and she has been great. Nice to have someone who supports me in it. I dont think I would have made it this far without her help. I finally have made it to the ponytail! Though it is really more of a stub than a tail at this point. My wife says she actually kind of likes the stub, and fortunately I have good genes for hair and haven't lost any of mine. My kids hate it but I dont really care about that. Cant wait for it to get longer. this is a great site and I have stopped by from time to time and just thought I would introduce myself. I actually kind of feel like one of you guys, though I have a long way to go.
Have you had it cut? The ends look unnatural as if they have been cut straight across.
Yes, I have to look professional at work, so while growing it out I did the slick over the top look and kept the back trimmed to my collar more or less until it was all about the same length and I could start tying it back. So yeah, which is a bit of a bummer, but oh well.
Your hair is looking great.
My "midlife crisis" started in 1964 when I was ten years old
and continues to thie very day at the ripe old age of 58.
I don't have any kids, but if i did I wouldn't care what they thought of my hair. It's my hair after all.
Kids don't like their parents to look 'weird', but that's our job, LOL!
Beautiful color and texture! enjoy the journey!
Hi John,
Thanks for the great update. I really like the color and texture of your hair. I am happy your wife supports you with it. I don't think your kids really understand the whole thing about you growing your hair maybe. Being as straight as your hair is, it shouldn't take long to achieve a nice length. Straight hair is also easier to keep neat in my opinion. Glad you are maybe having a midlife crisis and growing your hair. It's a good thing in this case. Please keep it growing and I look forward to your future updates.
Take care, Ted
Hi John,
Thanks for the introduction and posting that very nice picture of yourself:)I'm glad you were able to break some barriers and grow the long hair you've always wanted. The style does appear someone cut a longer ponytail off just below the hair tie but in a way it's unique!Kind of reminds me of an old barber's shaving cream brush if you can picture that.lol.Anyway great pic, great hair, and a great guy:)Cheers my friend.

Yeah, it does kind of look like that! That's OK, though.
Hi John,
Your hair looks great! I am 44 and I have a lot more gray hair than you.

Greetings, John R.
Your hair is super thick and should easily grow to your waist. Hopefully you will grow it quite a bit longer.

John,
Your story warms my heart -- both the content and your attitude. Keep it growing. I am 78 and have only been growing my hair for the last 10 years. Too many professional, social and family pressures before then.
I still work professionally part time and am so well established now that i get no gaff, only compliments.
I fear I have reached terminal length. I need to post some new photos. You msy look at my photos under Caledonian, NC. My lenght is about the same as 3 - 4 years ago, but as long as I maintain my hairline I am going to keep growing. Gradually I learn to take better care, so maybee I can still advance.
Whatever, it gives me great pleasure to be a part of a "band of brothers," who have defied the straight jacket of the 1950s and reclaimed our right to be free and whole people.
