Hey guys hope you are all well as I just went through quite a bad time with this storm last night. First of all I am fine but there is no power for who knows how long. All I could see last night were the explosions from all the transformers.I looked all around and just kept seeing flashes of light.Took a brief car ride at day break and there is no power anywhere. All traffic signals are out, trees downed, etc. Currently charging my phone in the car charger but will work on sitting up a portable generator.Anyway all for now and sorry about the off topic post.
Mârk
Glad you are OK (even if you are in the dark)
I am on standby for FEMA deployment.....wouldn't it be a hoot if I end up in Jersey???
Keep Well, my friend
Walter
Hi Mark,
I wish you all up there Godspeed in getting back to normal. I have been watching this situation with great interest and concern. Please stay safe and be well friend.
Ted
I would add this was a devastating storm. Major flooding in New Jersey, New York, 2 feet of snow in West Virginia, a lot of rain
all up and down the east coast.
I would add what made this hurricane "Frankenstorm" is you had a
hurricane plow up the east coast of the US of A, combine
with a Nor'easter and then combine with a snow storm.
This should be a lesson to all, when they warn that a hurricane is
heading your way, prepare for the worst. And when they order you
to evacuate, do it. AFter all when the winds exceed 75 mph they
are not going to risk their lives to save you. Although for people
like me if i'm ordered to evacuate i'm not going any where without
my cats.

I am glad you are OK, Mark. Hopefully your house and cats are OK too. Keeping them inside would be a good idea. Hopefully the 28 meter tall tree in your front yard does not fall. It is only 12 meters from your roofline. (I measured this on Google Earth.)
No need to apologise for being off topic, this storm is serious.
Do keep us posted, and stay safe.
Scott
We have a lot of large trees all around us, but luckily only one of them came down in the storm, and it fell the right way, into the empty field next door and not onto my wife's van!
Hi Mark
I am glad to hear that you are alright, and certainly a storm such as you have just been through is a nightmare. I remember them well, but remember the biggest surge of them in New England in the 50's-early 60's and after that (while I lived there at least) we only seemed to get grazed. The worst I knew of and heard of was the Hurricane of 1938 which demolished New England and was remembered as was the Blizzard of 1888. In any event, I feel very sorry for the people who have lost their lives because of this storm and those right now out in the street. Again Mark, I am glad that you are ok and can only hope for the best for all of the suffering going on. Mankind can think he is so strong, great and powerful, but in the end he is nothing and no match for the big natural dissasters that can always be counted on. Take care and I hope you have a weeks storage of food around someplace.
Justin~
Very Worried about all of you on that side of the world. Wishing you all a swift recovery from Sandy. Take care bru.
Just thinking of you this morning -- which is why I decided to check here first before calling you, so glad to hear you're OK!!!
Stay well, stay safe, and keep your cats indoors today!!
(And don't forget to keep your hair out of harm's way, too!)
- Ken
Mark, glad to hear you are fine. This storm has packed quite a wallop, and I have a feeling we'll be cleaning up after this one for some years.
I hope all of us in that area are safe.
- Oren
Hey Markie babes
I've been thinking about you for the last 24 hours, really pleased to hear you are ok. Take care buddy :)
Dave
Hey Guys I really appreciate all your kind words of encouragement during this difficult time.Really I shouldn't complain as I'm only having to deal with the lose of power and not real damage to my home.Still hopefully this mess can be over as quick as possible. It really feels nice to have support from the great people on this great board:)Cheers my friends!

By the way Mark, I didn't get a chance to say how much I enjoyed looking at your pictures after your long hair meet up. Meet ups are some of my favourite pictures on here, I certainly had fun in the summer with Vivien. You never know maybe we can hang out one day :)
Cheers buddy
Dave
Hello Mark, my thoughts go out to you and others in your neck of the woods who were not so lucky caught up in this nasty super-storm. I am pleased to hear that you got off lightly. it is absolute chaos in NYC and Atlantic City at the present and I was shocked just how bad it was.
Best wishes and hugs,
Duncan
Hi Mark,
Thank you for checking in and for letting us know how you are doing. I am sorry to hear that you are faced with an extended power outage, but relieved to hear that you are OK. I was horrified to see the damage throughout such a large area of the NE USA when viewing the coverage on TV.
Please stay safe, and I hope your power will be restored quickly.
Take care,
David
Wow, Mark, that must have been unnerving to see all of that going on. We did pretty well only losing power for about an hour. There was some debris around but not as much as from Irene which hit just around this time last year.
Glad that you're safe!
I would mention here that New Jersey got hammered, much of the state was flooded, lots of power outages, homes lost, etc.
In Atlantic city the boardwalk is gone. The state is hurting really bad.
Over in New York City, many are still without power, lots of flooding, including floods in the subway. It wouldn't surprise me if much of the subway is out for many months (years?) Think about it's been underwater for days now, I wouldn't be surprised if the whole electrical system will have to be replaced, much of the track bed may need replacement too. And then there is the contamination from oils, many toxic substances in the water, the smells, etc.
For many in New York and New Jersey it will take years to recover.
Hey Mârk,
Here's hoping the best for you and everyone else on the east coast. It looks like a mess and I have no clue how it's all going to get sorted out anytime soon, but I'm hoping it can be resolved quickly so that everything can get back to normal for you guys! Really saddening to see what's coming from there!!!
Your photos from your other post reminds me a bit of the surprise October '97 snowstorm we had around here with the trees... what they called our 250-year snow storm. I've heard that some are already calling this storm a 100-year storm but I'm guessing this'll end up being a 300 or 400 year storm by the time they have everything all said and done.
...and with global warming, who knows what's more to come ~_~ .....
Sincerely,
Eric
What a great contest...I cant wait to see it come to life! I ralely think they are all so beautiful but I love the colors of the Coral and Raspberry and I love the fun, chic look of the Black and White Polka Dots + Stripes! So I vote for both of them! :) Good luck to everyone!
