I don't post much, but I do check in from time to time. Since I thought my hair look rather good tonight after washing and air drying I took an update photo. (I guess I reached a new milestone because a few days ago when getting in my car I shut the door on my mane.)
Karsten
Wow Karsten: Your hair is beautiful love the length and thickness very nice.
Tom(Hairboy)
Thanks Tom! I am glad that the thickness has come back as I had experienced a massive hair loss following surgery a few years ago. Thankfully I am still getting some good growth. Not sure if it helps, but I do take Biotin every day.

Your hair is gorgeous, Karsten. Do try to be careful around car doors. (I got mine slightly caught on bushes today, even when in a segmented tail with 11 ties.) Yours looks long enough to sit on. I can't recall getting mine caught in a car door. Long hair forever.
Scott
Thanks Scott! My mane has some strands that are at the length where I feel myself sitting on it - hopefully by summer of next year most of it will be that long. I have also gotten it caught in bushes, mostly due to wind.
Karsten
After having long hair for a while you get to the point where you
forese potential hazards for your hair. I always have some hair
ties to tie my hair into a pony tail/braids/etc. to prevent potential damage. Getting your hair caught in a car door
lets you know that you need to be careful of potential hazards to
your hair.
Remember it may take years to grow your hair long but could
only take a split second to get your hair caught in a potential
hazard that damage your hair.
I love the feeling of having my hair loose, but sometimes the
smart thing to do is tie the hair into a pony tail, braid(s), or
maybe a bun. I would prefer to have my hair loose, not confined
in a pony tail/braid(s)/etc. but i'd also prefer not to loose
a foot long chunk of hair that gets caught in something it isn't supposed to be caught in.
-------------------------
I got my hair slightly snagged on a bush yesterday. Only one three foot long strand came out. I need to remember to wrap my tail around my neck to secure it when around bushes.
Scott
I can relate. When I was younger, I was shredding paper, and I bent down to pick up some more paper, and my hair got caught in the paper shredder. It ate about a foot and a half and only on one side! It's my worst hair mishap to date.
Your looks really good and healthy. Especially since it is approaching a longer length. Be careful with car doors and other hazards. I am thinking on growing mine to my waist, but I do have concerns with doors etc.
Darrin
Thanks Darrin. Don't worry too much about getting hair caught in doors and such. Actually I started out only wanting mid-back hair, then I wanted it to my waist, and now I'm really hoping for knee-length. Grow it and enjoy it!
Karsten
Hi Karsten,
I am really loving your hair! The color and length and everything about it is spectacular! I sure hope to achieve something close to your length sometime in the future. I am glad your hair still looks grear after your massive hair loss. Also happy that you are doing well after your surgery. Please don't get your beautiful hair caught anymore! I kind of wish I had that problem though! I look forward to your next update!
Take care, Ted
Thanks Ted. I find that the longer my hair gets the more I want it to grow still longer. Recently I got up from a chair and did not realize that some of my hair was draped over the arm of the chair of which I placed my hand to raise up. That one hurt and ripped out a few strands. I was mad at myself for doing it, but it made me laugh about it too. You just learn to be more careful. I hope that someday you will be able to have such problems too! :)
Hi Karsten,
I apologize for the late reply. That chair vs. hair incident sounds kinda bad. Thank goodness you have plenty of hair! And yes, I hope to one day be able to have these problems! I just can't wait! Take care!
Ted
Hi Karsten - your hair is astounding !!! - love ur avatar pic too - very Scandinavian heavy metal !!! cheers CEM.
Thanks CEM, my avatar was taken about 4 or 5 years ago when my hair was a bit longer than mid-back. I think my hair would have been much longer than it is now if it were not for the surgery.
Karsten
Hi Karsten,
It is great to hear from you, and thank you for sharing your inspirational update. Your hair really looks good, and cheers to you that it has made such a good recovery from that shedding episode you had some time back.
Keep it growing,
David
Thanks David, I do intended to grow it as long as it will grow, though I might get a slight trim if it starts dusting the floor when walking :)
Karsten
Hi Karsten, great to see you back on the board again:)I know it's not as frequent as when you used to do all those artistic hair updates but at least your here. From what I can see your hair looks fantastic considering what you had gone through health wise.I trust, beyond just your hair, that you are also feeling much better. Thanks for stopping back to update us all on how your doing and hopefully we'll see more of your in the future:)Cheers my friend.
Mârk
Thanks Mark, if I was doing the hiking like I used too I would be taking more photos as I like the outdoors and had a lot of fun trying to come up with some creative pictures. I did read here about your recent trip west. Glad you had a good time.
Karsten
Absolutely lovely, Mark!
Always good to get an update from you.
- Oren
Thanks Oren, I'm still going back and forth on the beard. It's just that's it's more white than grey and when it gets some length to it I end up trimming back. I really need to just let it grow as I'm sure once it got past the awkward stage I would embrace it.
Hope all it well with you.
Karsten
Looking great!
It takes a while for your reflexes to adjust to hair growth...I'm pretty good with adjusting for obstacles when I'm moving...but lately I'm dealing with it being a lot easier to step on.
Good Growing!
Thanks for the compliment (and the inspiration). I usually keep it tailed at work and when doing chores around the house. Don't know if I'll have to worry about stepping on it anytime soon, but hopefully I'll obtain a few more inches and will then have to be careful to avoid sitting on it.
Karsten
Looks great, your length is my goal.
James, your mane is awesome!!! Good luck in achieving your goal. Just take care of your hair (but don't fuss too much on it) and continue to grow it. Look forward to a future update from you showing your waist-length hair!
Karsten
Hi Karsten,
Always great to hear from you, regardless of however often or infrequently you pop in to say hello -- and your mane is looking hands-down AWESOME, too!!!!
Anyway, hope all is well with you, and that you keep on growin' that beautiful hair of yours!!
Long Lox 4ever,
Ken in San Francisco
Thanks Ken, I have checked out some of your recent posts and you are looking great as ever. I'm kinda like you in the beard department ...I keep ending up trimming it back mostly because it's as white as snow :)
Karsten
Karsten
Good to hear from you and a great update photo.
Thanks for Sharing
WWT
Thanks WWT, nice to hear from you also. I have always enjoyed your posts here on the board.
Karsten
Hello Karsten,
I have never forgotten you and am pleased to see your still around after the health problems that you have had in the past. Your hair is looking great and your current length is my ultimate hair goal.
I remember your great outdoor hair photography using your mane as a prop, blending in well with mother nature. The message and indeed the theme of your camera work photos I believe was that long hair is a natural primal state of equilibrium with the natural world which indeed it is.
Great to hear from you and look forward to seeing more of you over on the forum in the present and in the future.
Cheers,
Duncan
Hi Duncan, I really enjoyed taking those outdoor photos. I hope to do so again, perhaps next year if I am able to get out for some hiking. Thanks for remembering.
Karsten
Karsten...the hair is always great...and so are you!..milestones are funny. a few weeks ago i picked up a small kitten on the side of the road.i initially thought i hit it and wasnt even certain it was a kitten..thought it could be a chipmunk too.So I backed up to check if it was ok and there it was sitting scared to pieces on the side of the road..i tried to pick him up and he ran under my truck and immediately jumped onto my tire up into the wheel well So i peeled him off and as he clung to me he clawed his way onto my shoulders and then get into my ponytail.he held onto my hair with his claws and after looking for a momma cat or other kittens and seeing none i decided this little fella wasnt going to make it on his own and brought him home.He continues to think my hair is a play toy and likes to bat my hair around when i have it tied up in a tight segmented ponytail.Good to see you again!
Wonderful pic and wonderful story Gordy!
--Dale
thanks Dale...i named the kitten Mich...as in michelin...because he was gonna be hit by my tire and he jumped right onto it when i stopped for him..i thought it was appropriate name for him..heres a pic of us
Thanks Gordy, good to hear from you. Checked out you photos in your post above and you're looking great! Good luck with the kitten you rescued, but when he gets bigger you might have to get him a new plaything so as to protect that awesome mane of yours.
Karsten
What a great story & pic. Gordy - it made me all warm 'n fuzzy inside - thx. bud !!! cheers CEM. :O)
Hi Gordy,
I just came across this post and just had to reply. What an awesome story about that little kitty:)I'm sure if you had not rescued him who knows what his fate would have been. That's very noble of you and as a cat owner myself I can say they are great companions. Now in future updates you'll have to include kitty just for fun:)Cheers my friend!
