Just curious what everyone's thoughts were on dreadlocks. There are some people out there with a beautiful head of dreads and to be honest I'm jealous. Though the thought of all the necessary knotting makes me cringe. I don't think I would ever have the patience to maintain them. I have enough to deal with as a long hair as it is! Also it doesn't seem like a style that's as flexible as it is for us long hairs? Not sure if this is off topic or not. Thoughts?
Hi Shydowyn,
In my opinion dreads are great if you have the patience and desire to deal with them.Personally I would not want them but I've seen many people who look "AWESOME" in dreads:)Particularly African American guys pull off having dreads with ease.If I could look that good with dreads I'd wear them.As for hairstyles I've seen dreads worn loose and also tailed. In fact some tailed dreads I've seen used one of the ropes as the actual hair tie!How convenient is that:)So it's really up to the individual whether or not they are worth the effort. So my opinion is dreads do work in the right circumstances.Great question and thanks for bringing it up my friend.Cheers

I like them.... and if I'm ever silly enough to decide to get a hair cut I will definitely get dreads first to see what it looks like :)
You know that's been my thoughts exactly! IF I ever decided to cut short that is. If. I watched a video of a guy getting his long hair dreaded. all the back combing made me feel ill lol but it looked awesome finished. I can only imagine how much harder it would be to find or keep a job after that.
I've seen that too (the dread strand as a tie) Pretty cool.
I've seen ways to make fake dreads out of long hair which looks pretty cool and you can just wash it out the next day and back to normal long hair but the amount of product you have to use... I don't know if it would be worth the risk with the possible damage the product could do. I think it a clay wax is used.
i've noticed alot of guys with long dreads. A good number of them
have dreads half way down their back. A while back I came some with waist length dreads, and I saw one with dreads that were butt length.
I should also mention there are alot of football players in the NFL with long dreads. (I posted something about that a while ago.)
Down to their butts? That must be so heavy considering hair isn't shed like normal but incorporated into the dreads. Must be more of an inconvenience at that length than anything else.
To Shydowyn,
My opinion on dreadlocks. I personally not a big fan on the hairstyle on people other then Black or Indian continent people. It is a look in my opinion that doesn't look good on people of European, Middle Eastern, Hispanic or Asian heritage.
Dreadlocks traditionally were worn by Black Rastafarians in the Caribbean and Indian Saddhus and Holy men.
I have never seen any white person pull off the dreadlock look well. Another thing is that if your hair is naturally very thick and curly/kinky then it would be more suited then if you have straight, and thin hair. I identify with European culture of my ancestors so I personally do not want dreads on myself ever.
However the great thing about dreads is it allows the wearer over time to have very long hair to classic or beyond and may be a solution to those of us with a short terminal length.
My two cents worth.........
Cheers,
Duncan
Hi Duncan,
I couldn't agree more with your assessment regarding dreadlocked hair.My hair is of the fine, straight variety
and would look lousy in dreads I believe.I agree that the ethnic groups you mentioned pull off the look and do it with class:)If I were in those groups I'd likely do it in a heartbeat.I think their dreads are "AWESOME" and puts a smile on my face everytime I see one of them wearing them.My three cents;)LOL.
