Greetings to you, my long-haired brothers :)
It's my first winter coming with me full of long hair. I know just so little about the hair. The question is, how should you take care of your hair during this period? Does it require any additional protection? Winters in Ukraine (the country I'm from, somewhere in Eastern Europe, south-western neighbour of Russia) are sometimes cold enough - average tempereture stays about 0 or down to -5 degrees by Celsius. But there are also some really cold periods when temperature holds near -20 degrees. The climate's rather humid so it feels almost like -30 (or even lower) in Syberia.
What should I normally do to keep my hair in good condition?
Would be really thankful for any of your answers!
Serge.
As someone who lives in upstate New York (read: lots of snow)
i would suggest the following:
1. On windy/snowy days tie your hair into a pony tail or braid it.
2. I never wear a hat, on snowy days i will wear a hood.
3. The main thing you want to protect your hair from is the wind and the resulting tangles.
4. Humidity won't be a problem, winters are very dry you may
need to get a humidifier to add humidity to the air on winter days.
5. Check any winter coats you wear. Some of them may be designed such that you hair will get caught on them. (Around the collar)
6. Depending on how long your hair is, Watch your ends. During the 80s when I had I had knee length hair I would have to either bun it or tail it/braid it and wrap it around my neck or tuck it
inside a shirt. Especially when you had periods during the winter when the snow was chest high.
Many a winter we would have snow storm after snow storm that would pile up to past chest high. We also would have temperstures in that get as low as 20 below zero, we would
also get lots of ice. There are days when everything is covered in ice.
Greatly thanks for your answer! I prefer walking with my hair loose, but it seems like winter's a season for pony-tails.
Appreciate your answer!
By the way, today we got the first serious snow-weather. With strong wind and real snow. Huh, winter has begun :)
NO low temperatures will have no adverse effect upon your hair.
