I've got shoulder lenghth hair in back and short on the sides,top, and front which is the way I prefer it. My hair is very unruly. It's super wavy and curls up too much. I tried using a creme relaxer (the type blacks use to straighten their hair) and something called Curl Free, but neither one has really worked very well. Is there any way of straightening my hair? If not I may have to cut it. I really hate the thought of that though as I've been growing it out for about a year now. Am I blow-drying it too much? I also tried something called Bone-Strait but it's not the answer either. Any help?
Well, i'd like to help because a had the same problem, when i've decided to grow my hair long 2 years ago, my hair wasn't the very straight type, it had some curls in the back and I couldn't get it to grow more than collar length whit out looking ugly, I thought that i'll never grow it to my mid-back as now, but one day a friend told me that I can overcome this problem easily by using a cream relaxer, so I started looking for a good product to use and found "GOLDYS, RADIANT (NO BASE PERMANENT CREME RELAXER [*** SUPER "FOR COARSE-TEXTURED, RESISTANT HAIR-]", I choose the super type because I thought that no weaker type will solve my problem, when I got it I decided to start growing my hair all over again, these are the steps that I followed to get my hair long:
-I had a hair cut, my hair length was about 1 cm after it (I hate to remember this).
-I read the instruction that came with the product very carefully and I advice you to do the same because if you don't you might do some mistakes that will result in a greater problem.
-After reading the instructions thoroughly, I started the hair test as described in the manual, after the test i've found that my straight degree I like will need me to apply the creme for 30 min. --the maximum time limit--.
-I put the creme and waited 30 min. without combing, pulling, yanking or exposing to any heat source --recommended--.
-I washed my hair with warm water for 5 min. then applied the special shampoo that came with the product, after a while, I started washing my hair again for another 5 min..
-After this you can carry on with the normal shampoo procedure.
-I use some other products after shampoo -check out Re: How long is your hair (survey)? - LeeRax 21:59:21 2/18/98 (0)-.
-In the end I use a hair-dryer with maximum heat and air blow.
-proceed with the "retouch process" when you find new growth.
This worked very fine with me, now my hair is very straight and very healthy.
Good-luck to you :)

Hey, thanks! I used a creme relaxer before, but apparently it wasn't strong enough. As a matter of fact, it was meant for children. I got it cuz I was afraid a max strength would burn my hair or something since I'm a white boy. :-) The second time I used it (I saved half the first time), I left it on for 25 minutes and it held a bit better, but after a week it was totally gone. My wife hates my longer hair and wants me to cut it, but I've been pretty stubborn about it for the last year. I trim it myself. I'll see if I can find Goldy's Super somewhere around here and maybe I'll stave off the shears a while longer. I kinda like the Billy Ray Cyrus look, only I won't wear a pony tail.

---- I have shoulder lenghth black hair which is very dry and corse. I have tried every frizz beater product on the market and nothing works. I have to go to Florida at least three times a year on business and my hair does not stand a chance from the humidity there. I live in london,England by the way. I would like to try a straightner for my hair - any suggestions as I've come to the end of my tether that I'm considering having it all chopped off.
I have a similar problem as yours..my hair type is very rare, i am white and i have blond, frizzy, curly, thick hair..the toughest there is to straighten. My hair just does not look good in its natural form. It's a coincidence about what you were saying about florida because my hair was dead straight when i was a baby...until i went on a holiday to Florida, and its been curly ever since. I used to live in England, but since moving to rainy canada, it has made straightening my hair more difficult and dangerous. Tomorrow i am going to a salon to get my hair chemically straightened, which i have been dying to do for years, unfortunately, one of the salons i went to for a consultation said my hair was impossible to fix, so i am going to a salon where african americans get their hair relaxed..it should be a big improvement in my hair, and my patiuence...meanwhile i have probably used everything in an attempt to flatten my hair. I have a straightening iron, and i can tell you DON'T ever purchase one, they do not straighten your hair one bit, and they fry it out. not a good investment at all. I have used different shampoo's, gels, crems, and serums...you name it, i've used it. Even out of the expensive ones, i've found john frieda frizz ease the best. Steer clear of straightening creams or gels...what you are looking for, are the serums. the serums have a better consistancy to straighten your hair, and the john frieda stuff is the best i';ve tried...zero frizz is pretty good too. As for the brushes, use a flat paddle brush with boar bristles. They work the best because they hold your hair taught and flat. Also in some places like America, if you go to the drugstors, they will sell an at home relaxer..i attempted at one i boughgt in hawaii, and the only thing i can say is don't ever buy one..not only did it not work at all, but it made my hair rubbery, dry and even frizzier if that were possible.
When I read what you have to say I wondered if maybe I had wrote it and forgot that I had. You sound exactly like me!! I even used the bone straight! This is what I do and it seems to work ok:
1st. I leave !some! conditionor in my hair not to much or you will have oily hair.
2nd. I use Pro V gel...which *IS* god!! With that I also use some stuff in a lil bottle called umberto giannini..sounds expensive huh?? *LOL*
And last. I blow dry it and use a brush to run threw it while a do!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~TIP~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You ::HaVe:: To get conditioning treatments!!!! They are a much with all the blow drying and when you get outta there you will be amazed!
ok.......firsts things first, i was kinda offened about you callin african americans "blacks". its such a sham that there are still supperfical people out there that juge you by the color of you skin.
but to answer your question, there is a hair tip thats been workin for me, try using a clothes iorn to you hair, w/ some Sexy Straight Hair gel.good luck!
My hair is just beneat my shoulders, I have a kink in the middle of my hear, I want to know how I can get it straight and sleeky looking, more important is try to get rid of the kink
