Hello everyone,
I normally wear my hair down , but have to tie it for work. For years, I've been using the Goody elastic bands. They're nice, but I really don't care for them. I can never find the right size: either too big,too small, too loose, too tight etc..
I realize that there are very few options for Men with long hair. I was wondering if there was anything else available that can keep our hair neat & tied. Any creative ideas? What about Barrettes? I've never tried them and was curious how well they held the hair together. I've noticed some of the guys on this site braid their hair. Maybe I'm looking for something that doesn't exist. I am very fussy. I don't like having to tie in the first place, but I am required to.
Hi Gregg,
I really wish I could offer help here. However, my hair hasn't even reached my shoulders. Grrr! I keep telling myself to be patient and good things shall come to be. I am going to watch the replies and maybe get some ideas for when I get where you are!
Take care, Ted
I use scunci hair ties, "no metal parts."
If it is too loose just wrap it around a second time if needed.
I have to wrap it around four times for a pony tail.
Or you can try a braid with th Scunci hair ties.
I stay away from Barretts. Tried one years ago, it did some damage to the hair when it got tangled.
You can always take a strip of silk (or any cloth that isn't burlap, for that matter), wrap it around your ponytail, and then tie up the ends. The shoelace knot is significantly easier to undo, although it looks a lot like a hair ribbon, or alternately if you have a small piece of wire you can use a false knot to keep it in place without the knot looking too conspicuous or ornate.
I use scrunchies
Check out Bronze Jewelers (link below)! They have hair safe slide barrettes that are bombproof and male appropriate. Before I went to bunning routinely, one of their celtic slides was my daily ponytailer for years. They are made from heavy soldered/welded wire, so there are no sharp edges or clips to kink/cut/catch hair.
Good luck!

Why not try soft cloth hair elastics? They are much more stretchy than the Goody brand. They come in a wide array of colors and are very gentle on your hair. You can probably get these at Walmart or other big box store. AFAIK, these are all made in China.

I've always thought the Hair Glove was mega cool. Unforch my hair's thinner than it used to be and I don't wear it long enough for one these days. I've seen other brands of similar devices, including leather things with snaps.

Ok i have to ask, if your hair is long how do you get the hair into
the hair glove? I've never tried one but it would seem to me
it would be difficult to get the hair into the Hair Glove.
Apparently it has a little elastic at one end that slip on first then you wrap the body of the glove around and snap it. At least that's the method they show in the graphic below. OK, this might not be for people with very fine textured hair.

Hey Doc,
Have you considered looking into Hair cuffs?
I'll put a link below to give you examples, because there are many different kinds and styles.
I hope this helped ^____^

P.S. Try Google searching "Hair cuffs", you'll find all kinds of things.
I would like to thank everyone for their input and suggestions. I never realized that there were more options available. Soft cloth elastics, scrunchies, scuni hair ties, and even the hair glove all sound appealing. I like the variety of barrettes that I saw and the strip of silk was a very clever idea! I am not familiar with hair cuffs, so I 'll definitely check into that.
