Hi all,
I never posted here before, but I found myself coming back every now and then for support and tips over the last two years. Time to say thanks to you all!
There's lots of information on the internet about long hair and hair care, but I feel a lot (all?) of this is targeted to women and focuses on hair-care-products and hair styles and such. I was actually looking for simple practical tips on how to handle long hair in daily life, and it seems that for the practical stuff you still need men talk. Prejudice confirmed :)
It makes me sad to read time and time again how men/boys with long hair get treated in (certain parts of) the USA, getting forced to choose between job/education and hair. Shame to all those people who feel they have the right to judge over this.
(As a side-qeustion, is this aversion of long hair related to christianity? And if so, what is the reason for that?)
Fortunately for me, here in the Netherlands men having long hair is almost never an issue. Especially in my line of work (electronical engineering) I sometimes feel it even works in my advantage, looking like a pro with my manes and beard :)
Attached a photo of my result of the last years. I never planned on growing out, this more or less happened by accident. I have always hated getting haircuts, and after some time I figured that my ungroomed hairdo might as well be taken as 'long hair'. The same happened a few years ago with my beard, so I'm now fully uncut, and it feels just fine!
I wish you all lots of hair, keep up the spirit!
Welcome to the mlhh Zev and I'm happy to read it has been of benefit for you:)Little by little guys find us here and join in the fun and community while picking up hair tips along the way.Even though I've had longhair for decades, waaaay before the internet and mlhh,I still find there is more to learn as members provide information that even I never knew. Most recent was learning, and thoroughly enjoying, how to bun my hair with hair sticks:)It's now my preferred way to wear it while outdoors in the elements.Anyway hope to see more of your here and thanks for your pic my friend.Cheers

Hi Zev,
I must say it was very nice to see your update on the board this morning. Welcome to the mlhh and you will find many great guys here as you already have. Your hair is looking awesome! I just love the color and waviness.
It is a shame how society looks at men/boys with long hair. A person is so much more than just their hair or beard length. I am happy to hear in the Netherlands hair length is not a problem. I am not sure about the prejudice being related to christianity. Jesus had long hair after all.
Thanks for your update and I look forward to your future updates. I hope to achieve your length someday!
Take care, Ted
Hi Zev,
Welcome! You have a great look! Thanks for your thoughts on the subject of longhair. ----I have never seen a portrait of Jesus with short hair so I don't get that Christian hang up over longhair!
Keep it growin' and flowin'
peace, jonalbear
Welcome aboard!!
From my experience, while a fair percentage of christians do seem to prefer short hair for men, it's really more of a general cultural thing than specifically religious. I think a lot of it stems from the association of men's long hair with the "hippie"/counter-culture movements of the 60's and 70's, and with the mainstream association of the "clean-cut" look with professionalism in business.
Of course, these associations/prejudices are ridiculous when analyzed, but that doen't change the affect they have.
Looks good! Once again, welcome to the active part of the community.

Hello, and welcome to the board. You've got an excellent post there. Your hair and beard both look awesome. As far as your question about some people's prejudice against long hair being related to Christianity, I see no basis at all for that. I, myself, am a Christian and have been since I was nine years-old. Being that I'm 61 now, my relationship with Jesus has been a huge part of my life for many years. Having said that, I started seriously growing my hair out between 3 and 4 years ago and it nearly reaches the small of my back now. I'm happier about the way I look with it than I've ever been and don't ever intend to change that, unless something drastic and
unforeseen happens. Have a great day.
I don't think that it is specifically related to Christianity...it is more related to social groups and cultural groups that reject diversity and openness...and focus on an Us vs. Them mentality...that value conformity and try to restrict other people's choices, regardless of whether those choices have any effect on themselves.
That said, in today's USA, the most vocal and active such groups wrap themselves in the mantle of Christianity, even though even a cursory reading of the Bible teaches that this behavior is un-Christian at best!
ps: Welcome to MLHH!
Thanks for the welcome everybody! I don't have any specific plans for my hear, but if I'm still going strong in a year or so, I'll post an update :)
Yes, that makes sense.
But I did not mean in any way to get a discussion going here about religion, so I propose we drop the subject from here.
Apologies for me starting it!
Amen brother!
peace,
jonalbear
The religious basis for short hair comes from Paul, but he was a Roman, and I think historically short hair for men originated with the Roman legions and then spread from the military to the rest of Roman society. Also, the Roman Catholic church is the last vestige of the Roman empire that survives today.
The Romans had concrete and central heating, and laws against usury that we could well emulate (send the banksters to the arena to feed the lions!), but they also had slavery, and their empire collapsed under the onslaught of the barbarians (which only means men with beards!).
Greetings from a fellow barbarian!

Greetings Zev.
Your hair looks good. We at MLHH are glad we could help you with realizing your longhair goals.

Your hair and beard look great, man! I don't cut mine either, at all, and whatever grows, grows. I've had it that way for several years, I really like the look, and now I wouldn't have it any other way. (By the way, when you say a man is "uncut" in English, it means he is uncircumcised! It's best to say, "I don't trim my hair or beard anymore," or something similar, unless you're looking for a laugh.) [grin]

Looking great Zev!
I too, work in the computers/electronics field. I see quite a few long haired/bearded guys in electronics engineering (EE) and IT.
Thanks for chiming in and sharing,
