Unfortunately i have no way of uploading a picture. I have been growing my hair for a year now and it is about 6.5in long, the problem is, is that it is perfectly straight until it reaches the bottom and then it flips outwards and just ends up looking really bad. My question is will it straighten out more as it gets longer? if anyone else has this problem how do you deal with it? thanks :)
This is perfectly normal, and affects just about everybody and every type of hair.
As your hair grows long enough to reach your shoulders, the movement of your body flips the ends of your hair every step you take - hundreds if not thousands of times every day. More growth is the easiest answer - once your hair is long enough to hang down below your shoulders - whether loose or tied back, this doesn't happen in the same way.
As with all hair problems, patience is the key.
Happy growing.]!
Hi Zeldaguy,
If your hair is truly straight and is flipping out only at the ends it could be that when it dries it is laying on your shoulders. Hair assumes its shape based on how it is when it dries. If your straight hair dries as it is laying on your shoulders it will look flipped out at the ends. After it passes your shoulders sufficiently it should look straighter at the bottom.
My hair is wavy and when it is still wet I just comb it many times and it tends to pull out the waves. But a person with more waviness or curlier hair would have a hard time doing this. Iwould think if your hair has some waviness to it, the curls or flips would stay at the very ends when it gets past your shoulders. The top would appear straighter because the weight of your hair would be pulling the top straight. The ends would remain flippy because there is nothing to weight them down. You could try combing the ends out straight while your hair is drying. Of course, this doesn't take into account you may have type 1C hair or more than one type of hair.
I say just enjoy your hair and the different things it does. You may be surprised at what happens. I wish you much success in your growth and hope it does what you want it to do. Hope this helps!
Ted
You could try putting it in a ponytail while it's still damp. It will indeed straighten out as it gets longer.
You most likely have wavy hair. It will straighten out when it gets longer. The weight of the hair tends to straighten it. I have wavy hair and I will post another pic soon.
