Fellow longhairs.
I've been monitoring your board for quite awhile now and have learned quite a deal on managing long hair. I'm 54 and a bit too young to be a hippie but I have had long hair most of my life. I went to a private high school where there was strict rules over long hair on men. When I graduated it started growing and I haven't let up since. It's as long as it will ever get at my age. I have a question to ask. My hair gets extremely tangled when I get up in the morning. As I've added on the years it's gotten more kinky than it was when I was younger. Any of yall use a particular spray or 'additive' to lessen this? I wear it in a braid but it's a bitch to braid my own hair! Any other alternatives yall have tried?
Much obliged.

Welcome to MLHH. Your hair looks excellent and very well cared for. Braiding is difficult for many. Why not try a segmented tail? It is much easier than a braid.

Hey Scott.
Thanx for the comment. I've tried a segmented tail but the ties get tangled a lot of the time. I've had to cut them out of my hair even tho they're the good quality ones. Maybe I'm just not patient enough! :-)
Could they be tied to tight? I've been using ties for many years and have never had one get tangled. I use the Scunci no damage ties.
Actually you're not. I'm 58, started growing my hair in 1964.
The Hippie movement lasted until the mid 70s.
Your hair is looking really good, with practice you can do
a braid. There are also alternatives like a pony tail,
pig tails (like Willie Nelson), a segmented pony tail, etc.
Today I was with my wife in her mother's nursing home. One of her elderly friends there quipped: "Hello hippie boy!!" It was priceless....
Far out, man! :-)
I got that years ago. Now that i'm 58 years old I haven't gotten it for since I was in my mid 40s.
You can look at it as one of the perks getting old.
At 58 i'm that eccentric uncle who has long hair, wears what he wants when he wants (mostly shorts these days).
Of course at 58 I was one of those original long haired hippies.
So in my case the name fits. So I wear the name Hippie proudly.
I had long hair, bell bottoms, etc. The whole nine yards.
And if you had told me back in my hippie day that i'd be active
in the Sons of Union Veterans of the civil war I'd have said you're crazy. Yet I am. Go figure.
Welcome to the mlhh Sin and what great hair you have at such a young age:)In a way I followed the same path as a longhair where it was short all through my younger years during school. Once I was out I began to grow it long during my early 20s and the rest is history:)I never had one moment where I felt the need to go short again so I concluded being a longhair was my destiny. As for you question what I do is wear my hair loose with my hair tucked inside a T shirt I wear to bed. With this I don't experience hair pulling if I'm restless on a given night and it seems to keep tangles at a minimum.Maybe you can try this, can't hurt.Cheers my friend and happy holidays!
