Hei everybody!
I've been reading these boards for a few months silently now, and thought now might be just as good a time as ever to introduce myself and start getting some support on my very own long hair journey :)
Name's Raul, I am 29 and have been a semi-long haired dude most of my life. Back when I was a kid, I always tried growing my hair long, only for my father to cut it all off after a year or so, since he didn't want his son to look like a girl... lovely, I know, hehe.
The one time I really went through with it, was right after having finished my service in the IDF back in 2005. That was also the time I left Israel for Norway, a place I love with all my heart... but the point here, was that I didn't get a haircut for well over 2-2.5 years I think... and my hair was under shoulder length for the very first time in my life! Together with the beard I was sporing, I was naturally nicknamed JESUS... hehehe.
Then came the semi haircut to shoulder length (self made, one motion of the scisscors), and of course, a few weeks later, the short hair was back. Lots of complimets from the girls, a few years working as a model, and all around poisitive reaction to my short hair.. but for me, something was missing.
Since then I believe I went half-heartedly through it at least a dozen times, always giving up to pressure from a girlfriend and cutting it in a trendy short cut after 6-10 months of growth.
Well, back on November 27th, exactly a month from today, I decided that this time around, I DO want to experience having long hair again, and I WILL make it no matter what!
My hair was cut in an uneven cut, with jaw long hair on the right side of my head, and shaved hair on the other side. Trendy, but no as easy to grown out form. So I went ahead and cut it all off. Around 1 inch on the top of my head, a bit less on the sides and back. Damn, I felt like i was back in junior hight again :P
It's been a month now, and my hair is indeed growing, something that's rather easy to see in these early stages of growth. around 2 inches on the top of my head, and around 1 on the sides and back... I know this will take a long ass time in order to get back to a pony tain again, but hey, I've discovered a couple Beckham inspired beanies I really like, and I live in the cold frozen north after all, using beanies through the awkward stage shouldn't be so tough :)
My hair type is thick, "airly" (or better said fluffy), and rather oily, from what I can remember. I also sometimes have troucle with dry-calf, and therefore use the apporpriate products to prevent it.
From what I can remember, my hair seems rather straight at first, but is EXTREMELY curly after a while, and when in long state, is perfectly straight on top, and extremely curly at the bottom (thanks to the weight), so the idea right now is considering some sort of an anti-perm or something when the time comes, since I really don't want to deal with the huge curls at the bottom.
I am hereby adding 3 pics for you guys to see.. one from my days with long hair (and keep in mind in that picture, the only one I still have, it has been recently straight-ironed!), the other from a couple months back, with my a-symmetric style, then another from x-mas eve 2012, just 3 days ago :)
Hope to learn much from all you wonderful people here at this great board, and hope to god this time I make it back to long hair again! ;)
Raul.
שלום from over here!
hope you'll continue your journey for many more years! :D
A dude from Israel, I can tell... easy to spot not only by the SHALOM, but also by the type of hair ;)
Thanks for the kind words, and nice to meet you too! :)
Raul,
You hair looks great. Cool story! Thanks for sharing it. Keep it growin' 'n flowin'!
peace,
jonalbear
Thanks for the kind welcome, my friend! :)
This is one of those comments that I find puzzling. Here in
upstate New York my long hair is longer than the majority of women. When you venture around this area of New York
most of the women have hair that is shorter than mine. My hair
is now about half way down the back, 98$ of the women you see
around New York have hair that is shorter than mine. Sure there are some with waist or butt length hair but the vast majority have hair abouve the shoulders.
Good luck in your journey to have long hair.
Totally understand and agree with your statement, my friend. Fact was, unfortunately, that back when I was a kid living at home, dad was calling the shots, and him having had a really tough eastern-germany childhood, he didn't know any better. Nowdays it's him being the 60 year old with longer hair than he's ever sported in his entire life, and loving his somewhat unconventional son no matter what ;)

Greetings, Raul. Your hair looks great in that photo. I like the tattoo as well. You have high quality hair which should be able to grow very long. I wish you the best in regrowing it.
Scott
Heya Scott, and thanks for your kind words!
I really wish I had some older pictures with my natural wave of my hair, since that picture is after having used a good half an hour iron straightening it. I've usually got a ton more curl in it, though I do hope to find a metod to minimize it with time.
The tattoo is one of the older one's I've got, actually one I got in the holy land, where I used to live back in the day :) Nowdays I have well over 30, and when people ask me how many I have, I usually tell them "soon to be one", hehe...
Thanks again for the kind welcome!
And the other picture, taken on xmas eve 2012, just a few days ago.. short as it's going to be for a long while I hope ;)
Took awhile to get my thread approved by the admis, so here are the two missing pictures I intended on posting.
First, my semi-long a-symmeric hairstyle which I've had for the last half a year or so, recently all cut off in order to properly grown out my hair.
Hi Raul,
I want to welcome you to the MLHH also. Your hair looks great in this photo as well as the others. However, I hope you grow it out to at least mid-back length. Thanks for the very nice update photos and please keep it growing! Oh yeah, the tattoos are really nice also! I really like the one on your chest! Take care of yourself my friend!
Ted

I plan on initially growing My hair a bit under shoulder length, then see whats up going on forward :) thank you, Tattoos are my passion and I love each and every one of them, even if they ain't all "perfect" :)
Take care, Ted!

Hi Raul,
Welcome to the hyperboard, and I am glad that you have found us. You have an excellent head of hair, and I look forward to following your journey to even longer and longer hair. My best advice regarding your natural curly hair is to embrace your natural curls and waves, since too frequent use of straightening irons can lead to damage.
Welcome aboard!
David
Hey David!
Thanks for the warm welcome!
Not a real fan of them curls, since they're really only at the bottom of my hair. Hard to explain, but I will be able to simply show you guys when my hair is longer again :)
