Hey there everyone, I am Septet. I've been lurking for a while and decided I should just post and get it over with.
I've wanted long hair ever since I was a child, but my mother would never allow it. I remember crying during haircuts, a fact that my family still laughs about. Ha... ha... funny. But anyway.
I got out of the Navy in July 2012 and swore to myself I would never let anyone tell me what I could or could not do with my body ever again. I got a haircut two weeks before I got out and it will be the last one I ever have.
Here's me leaving the Navy.
Here's me today. Note: I am in focus in real life
I've got about 5 1/2 inches right now, and I plan on growing until I can't grow any more. Hope to see more of you guys in the future!

Hey man, and from one new guy to another, welcome to the boards!
I feel I know how you feel with all the years with the tough discipline in the military, since the only time in my life I've actually managed growing really long hair was right after I was done with my service. The feeling of complete freedom that hair and beard give is absolutely priceless!
Have a good one, and keep updating us here!
Um, sorry about the giant picture. I generally use BBCode, and it automatically scales images to fit pages.
This should be of a more reasonable size:
Hi Septet,
Welcome to the board and I thank you for your service. My Dad spent 20 years in the Navy Submarine service. I am glad you are going to grow your hair out. It's about time you do what you want to do. Your hair is going to look great when it's cascading down your back. And your beard would look just awesome if you let it grow long also. With long beard and long hair you would be a great total package. I wish you much success in your hair growth journey. Happy and safe New Year to you and yours my friend.

Hey, I was in Subs too! It's a small world...
Thanks for the encouragement Ted. I plan on shaving the sides of the beard, though. I generally only have a goatee, but I left it alone for winter. Happy New Year to you too.
Hi Septet,
Many here can relate to your story of wanting long hair from a very young age and facing obstacles. It must have been tough to go from parental control to then further control under an organization that enforces hair removal. The feeling of freedom you must have now is one to treasure.
I was under parental control and then religious control until I finally broke through around age 33. Life is too short to be corralled into the narrow definitions of what others think is appropriate.
You've got some fantastic hair to enjoy as you journey to becoming a longhair. It's got such great thickness and an awesome wave that's going to create some very cool effects as it lengthens.
We're glad to have you and I hope you continue to share your longhaired journey with us.
I made a blog of my own journey and documented in detail the various stages. It's fun to look back over progress photos and see how far you've come.

Thank you Jason. I read your whole blog and I look forward to further entries.
By the way, your wife is quite beautiful. You're a very lucky man.
That's kind of you to say. Thanks!
I need to give my blog more attention. Facebook consumes most of my online contributions.
Welcome! Glad you've de-lurked.
Lovely beard and hair. You're off to great start!
Onward and Downward!

I did the same thing when I was active duty with the army. After I got out in June 2011, I swore to not get a haircut until I reached the length of hair that I wanted. Which was mid chest level. It's been a long journey aleady. I'm at 1 year and 7 months already.
Hey Matthew Barley,
Nice hair!!! Yours grows fast!
Sincerely,
Eric
I had 15 years of active duty, been out for 17 years and haven't had a single haircut since. Got it down to my knees and loving it everyday. Go for it and enjoy being yourself.
Welcome to the forum, and welcome to freedom! Keep rocking the growth.
