I tried braiding my own hair yesterday thinking no big deal I play with, and braid my girl friends hair all the time even do french braids and gotten pretty good at the more elaborate stuff. So I sit down and its harder than the engineering math classes i'm taking in school. I sat there for a good 40 min until my arms got so tired I tried I quit lol.. Meanwhile my Girlfriend was laughing at me the whole time. Any tips on this would save me from taking to many Advil to relieve arm pain ;).. She said she would braid mine anytime I wanted her to, Like I do hers but NO I must be able to do this myself lol.
It just takes paitence and practice. Stick with it and you'll get there. The hardest part is maintaining the tension when you bring it round over your shoulder to work on the lower section.
Heh! Yeah, braiding yourself is almost completely different from braiding others. Experience and anecdote says that practice helps, and if you are lucky your brain will do the adjustment unconsciously and it will suddenly get much easier.
Briefer practice (stop before your arms fall off!) every day or so will set the movements in your muscles and you'll see consistent improvement.
After all, you didn't go from zero to french braiding in one session!
Good luck!
I have the same problem. I have been trying to braid my own hair for years and haven't been able to pull it off.
