I recently got the dry ends trimmed off my hair, and now the ends look really blunt. I hate how harsh and unnatural it looks, but I'm scared to ask my stylist to thin the bottom edge because if it doesn't turn out right, I will have lost more length for nothing. Do you think I should try to have this fixed or just live with it?
Another question: how would you go about finding a new hair stylist that you know won't ruin your hair? I'm losing confidence in the one I currently go to, not only because of this incident but because she has consistently made my fringe too blunt and too thin in the middle the last 3 times I've had it trimmed. But I know that if I blindly trust someone else with my hair, I could end up with much worse problems.
Hi Soren,
I think you hair looks awesome the way it is, from my perspective, and would "NOT" attempt fixes as I feel you'll regret those. As for your current stylist I'd stay with her unless you had a trusted replacement.Word of mouth is usually the best way to go when it comes to choosing one.Just remember maybe your not totally satisfied with your current stylist but an unknown quantity could be a disaster for you and as I'm sure you know.Anyway enjoy your hair my friend as its envious:)Cheers

Leave it as is. It will soon look fine as it grows.
Find a friend whose hair style you admire and ask them which hair stylist they use.
Problems solved! :)

Hi Soren,
I have always liked your hair and I hope you don't do anything to it. If you just let it grow it should produce a nice hemline on its own. Of course, you could have someone trim it into a U shape or V shape hemline. If I were you I would let it just grow into what they call "fairy tale ends". This is just letting it do its own thing without any trimming.
As far as the stylist stuff I would follow what Damon and Mark said. Please don't drastically change your hair though. It is looking awesome, as usual. Take care of yourself and your beautiful hair my friend.

I would leave it as it is and just continue to let it grow.
Let me know when you find the answer. I have yet to find
one I trust. I had one but the shop went out of business.
Just ignore it, in a couple of weeks this will disappear.
Better leave it "as is." In not really all that long a time it will be looking better on its own. How anyone could be so non-artistic as to do a hack job like this sure beats me........but, they are all over the place.
How to find a good stylists? Lots of research and observation.
Justin~
Hi Justin,
Always great to hear from you!!
I wouldn't go as far as to call Soren's hair a "hack job", though -- a lot of people like the blunt-cut look; just not Soren (also not particularly my preference, either; but I digress...).... Soren's hair looks terrific, in my opinion; but he probably was hoping for more of a "V"-shape look in back.
If Soren is also reading this: my advise is to ask people you know locally, especially longhaired women whose hair you admire (easier to find than longhaired men - LOL), and find out some names of stylists that are highly recommended by them. Usually they are a little more expensive if they have a longhair following; but hey, finding an excellent quality stylist who is capable of making their customers happy with exactly what they want in a nice trim, it's definitely worth the extra price!!
OK, back to you again, Justin:
I recently had fun looking at some of your YouTube videos that I had not yet seen... Although I doubt that Hollywood will be calling and making you an offer to star in their next summer blockbuster anytime soon, you do have a certain charm about you when the camera is rolling that makes it very entertaining to watch -- so thank you for doing all those videos, as I look forward to seeing more of them (when I'm not too busy starring in my next Hollywood movie myself - LOL)!!
Long Lox 4ever,
Ken
Hey Ken!
So nice hearing from you. Time goes by just so fast.
*You did? Glad you were able to live through them. Legend has it that some pass-away after seeing one of these. LOL
*Ha Ha Ha. Actually, Hollywood did call one time, and after only 15 seconds of hearing me on the phone I heard this horrible scream and the phone suddenly went dead. Can you imagine?
After 4+ years of making those off-the-wall.......off-the-cuff videos, I am suddenly getting all of these emails from guys who have grown the most fantastic Long hair. And photos too! Little did I know that I had played a role in the fact that it was my crazy videos that encouraged them to continue on and make it to long hair. I DID make one video however that was done later on because I had "had it" with all of these guys writing me these sob stories and were the type that could not defend themselves against others as I had advised in my inital series of videos (#7 to be exact.) So, this one is hardly a "sweet and dear" way to handle people, but then again, the people who are so ugly towards guys desiring long hair shouldn't be allowed to get away with it. So, I "lost it" (is that anything new?) and made this really mean one. And guess what? The loved it!
Oh, the phone is ringing, must run (not walk). Maybe at long last Hollywood has decided to call again? Maybe they want to cast me in a film called "The Elderly Fossile Still Lives!"
Take care Ken and again, it was nice hearing from you! :-)

Hello Soren!
Awesome hair, the trim looks good. Don't worry about the blunt ends, when you get a trim they will look that for while, want to say about 1-2 weeks, in a matter of time the ends will become more straight and pointy, that'll mean your hair is already growing again!
about the stylist, they are hard to find, i never really had a problem with finding one or had a bad trim but i've heard of alot of people like you that went through the same experience. My best advice is resarch a salon before you go there and explain to them how much you want to trim and how you want it to to look like ( fore example, v-shape, flat, straight etc etc.
hope this helped :)

resolve on its own. Individual hair strands grow at different rates and that blunt look will vanish in under a year.

Sören, I think you're probably overthinking this a bit. To the average person your hair looks great. I like the way it tapers in the back, though the taper does level out a bit in the middle. This leveling will curve out some after awhile, though, since hair grows at slightly different speeds in different areas of the head.
I recently watched a video of a high priced big city stylist end-trimming a pop singer's hair. I'd never seen his scissor technique before. He would angle the scissors outward and move the scissors so slightly you would see no cutting at all. Apparently the idea, though, was to create subtly vary the end levels so the hair doesn't appear cut straight across. Then again, he may have just been doing fancy moves to justify his high price.
Yeah, I'm familiar with that cutting technique; it's actually the one my stylist used in the past when I was more satisifed with how she cut my hair. Maybe I should describe the technique to her next time I go so she has a more definitive idea of what she was doing before that I preferred.
Don't know about you, Søren, but I absolutely love your hair! All from the length, the color, the texture and even the bottom which you seem to have a problem with... lovely locks which you should be proud of! :)
I say let it grow a bit and notice how the natural shape of it will soften the effect!
I think it looks fine. It makes the statement that you have it trimmed because you want it to look good, not just a ratty terminal length look. If you want the ends "texturized" (their term), you need to tell the stylist before she/he starts.
I think the best advice I have seen repeated about finding a good stylist is to fins someone who has hair with the look you want, and ask that person who their stylist is. Good luck!
I do prefer the look of texturised ends, but does texturising damage the hair or make it more prone to split ends? If so, I don't think it's worth it.
Hey Soeren,
Your hair looks great. My advise is to leave it alone and let it grow.
Don't go back to your current hair stylist. and take your time looking for a new stylist. I do not get my ends trimmed, I just let my hair grow. If you feel that you need to go to a stylist then take your time in choosing a good one; one who will handle your hair like it was a valor shirt. When you go to a stylist have a conference with him/her about what your goals are and how you want him/her to do for your hair. Have him her do a demonstration on a small and not readily visible part of your hair. If you are satisfied with what you see then let him/her continue under your close scrutiny.
