Well im basically thinking of asking the doctor if id be ok to use one or the other.
has anyone here used any of these?
Hi Blessedlonghair.
I do have some very mild thinning in the crown area, and I have been taking propecia (finasteride) for the past 6 years, and I am very satisfied with the results, since my hair has definitely not gotten any thinner in the period since I started taking it, which was when I was 53. I will be turning 60 in August.
As far as I know, Rogaine is more of a "topical" treatment, and it may help to some degree, but doesn't really address the root of the hair loss. Finasteride actually gets to the root of the problem, by directly impeding the action of an enzyme that can lead to hair loss.
Good luck, and please keep up updated.
David
Haven't tried them yet, but I've heard of some serious, permanent side effects about finasteride/propecia. Even the doctor brought it up, when I asked about taking propecia "just in case", so I could avoid trouble altogether.
I think those horror stories are still a small minority, like well under 10%, but a risk to consider. It sounds much more convenient than rogaine/minoxidil, but haven't heard of many problems with minoxidil.
They need to work out hair multiplication, etc. soon! They'll make trillions! 8D
Here's a page on the risks I'm talking about. They think in a minority of cases, the symptoms might not go away, which include mental problems. Should be a clickable link below:
