Hey guys,
I've been lurking on this board keeping tabs on those I know... Glad to see the progress of a lot of people in here. Well, I'm just wondering for those that are past armpit length, how do you cope with the ongoing proces of new growth. It is especially hard for my type of hair texture 2c varying to some 3a (I even have some 2a and 1a mixed in different regions of my scalp).
Lately, I've been annoyed with the new growth of hair in the the front part of my head. Everytime I have my hair tied or bunned, all it takes is for the wind to blow at the wrong opposite direction to pop up all of the new hair growth. On humid days, it is extremely difficult to smoothen out some of the frizz mixed in with straight hairs poking straight up and all I use is coconut oil with lots of cold water.
Do any of you use gels, or natural products to tame these new growth. I just find it annoying that I have to cope with this cycle even well into my goal length and beyond. It's so frustrating! I know it is a good sign that will ensure that I will continue to grow hair. Anyways, before I start to go on a rant, maybe i'll try organic aloe vera if I can find some at the grocery. I'd like to avoid waxes and pomade since I heard these are bad for the hair and scalp, and can clog up the pores on the scalp, thus preventing room for new growth. I'd be so appreciative to hear from as much as you, your opinions, words of wisdom, or even rants.
Always,
an old friend...
Hello there someoneuknow,
I'm not sure if I know you or not, or if you know me, or if you know what I know or if I know what you know or if either one of us know for sure what we assume we know; but in any case... I am someone who's replying (LOL)....
Some of the abbreviations that you used make it hard for me to understand what you were asking; but be that as it may, I caught the general "drift" of your question (I THINK, at least).
During the awkward stages, just do whatever it takes to make it through the day -- whether it be gel, hats, bandanas, or just plain looking like hell for awhile. By the time you arrive at ponytail stage, you'll be grateful you hung in there!
Your Truly,
Ken in San Francisco (whom you may know but maybe you don't!)
Hi Ken, this should solve the mystery for you.

Hi 'SOUK' - 1stly: hehehe @ Kens reply = wot a crack - but good sagely advice. 2ndly: yes = I too have fly-aways:(quite long ones that work loose:(for wot-ever reason i.e: wind, elastic working loose etc. ) - in the main, I just tolerate them, re-elasticize my hair after re-smoothing with hands - when I really want a fixed, long-term smooth scalp with hair tied back - I simply use a hair lacquer:( light-spray only ) - but with long hair, maintenance:( to some degree ) is necessary - even if it is just smoothing & re-tying - oh just make sure you don't eat 'em - always check before da big-munch !!! & NEVER, NEVER just pull 'em out:(like Mary Pierce:(Tennis-player) used to do, on court, in da midst of battle ) - it worked for her - but I DON'T recommend it !!! ::)) - cheers CEM.

My hair is very diverse too. It varies from 1a to 2c. (It probably averages out to maybe 2a.) I have mostly fine hair (about 65 microns) with some medium and a sparse smattering of coarse strands. I have blond, red, auburn, brown, and black hairs on my head. I have yet to meet anyone with hair as varied as mine. I have maybe 20 different types of hair on my head. Most people have 2 or 3. You probably have over 10.
As a result, my new growth can get messy too. It is a myth that it will all eventually fit into a ponytail. My hair is knee length, and yet, maybe 15% is never long enough to reach the ponytail tie at any given time.
I just use a carefully tied bandanna to tame those shorter wind blown hairs. Those loose hairs can really be annoying.
