OK I can't sleep. So I thought I'd share how I've been wearing my hair in bed. I really meant what I said from my last update about how I'd literally sleep with a top knot bun. Well here it is;
Now I wear my hair into a necklace. It was inspired from Absolom, known as Scott Nigel here in MLHH, just look at his avatar pic next time and you'll know what I mean.. . I can't quiet do it like his style, but my version is to keep my hair from tangling and moving around. Here is me being a dork and having fun;
I'd wake up and it would look the same, which is what I want. I was tired of the weight of the top knot pulling my scalp and then getting frizzy hair all around my head from moving around too much when sleeping. Yes I move a lot when I sleep. So Scott's avatar hair style works for my current length of hair. I just modified his style so I couldn't strangle myself with my current length. I'll have to change it of course once I reach waist length. How do you all wear your hair for bedtime?

Hi Rowie
I keep my hair in a single tail with multiple hair ties. Your hair is quite a bit thicker than mine, so 2 tails is probably a good idea. (I move very little during sleep.)
Scott
Hi Scott,
Wow you are the only person I know with knee length hair that does not drape the hair to the back of the bed. It must be nice not to move a lot in bed. Hmmmm I wonder if there is a way I can train myself to do this. That way, I can do a lot of simple styles. It seems like a lot of people in here "don't move a lot" in bed. I guess i'm just full of energy with some to spare.

rowie
Funny pic man, made me smile. It's must be so wonderful to have hair so long you can achieve those styles. Well, another year and I'll be there ;)
/\m> Shaka to you
shaka shaka to you as well. You'll get there in no time and then you'll be like me getting annoyed with hair everywhere that you start looking for ways to control it comfortably, cause if you don't you can spend a lot of time in the morning just de-tangling.
peace out,
rowie
When I had longhair I put my hair in a regular ponytail.
This was for me a good way to prevent it from tangling.
I'm glad the ponytail method worked for you. I have to split my hair or put it all on the top because I didn't like feeling the hair tie when I laid on my back.
So good to hear from you. I hope you have many safe travels.
best,
rowie
I always sleep on my side, but I can understand that you don't want to sleep on your back with a regular ponytail.
I'm back from my travels and had a great time, currently looking for a job.
Hey rowie,
I have to admit you are very creative tying up your hair as both styles look awesome! The only bun I've done was a simple lazy bun I learned from a Trolleypup video clip:)I hold it together with two wooden hair sticks.I posted that pic a while back of the results so maybe you recall when I did that.As for bedtime hair restraint all I do is leave my hair loose and put on a T shirt but don't pull my hair out.So it's sort of trapped between my body and the shirt and found it works well for me:)This method may not work for everyone but it does for me and it does keep tangling at a minimum.Anyway you and your hair look fantastic my friend :)Cheers

Thanks Mârk! I get my inspirations to create from many longhair individuals like you. I just modify it to accommodate my liking. The Lazy wrap bun was my go to bun, but I like the nautilus bun even better cause it only takes me ten seconds since it cuts half of the wrapping process.
Yes I remember that style with the stick you did, and I have to say it looks really good on you! I like your idea of wearing a shirt and leaving the hair inside. I might try method at least once when I reach waist length, but I love to sleep naked so that will be a big sacrifice i'd have to make I guess if I end up liking it. hahahah

rowie
Hey rowie,
Yes, give the shirt method a try as you might like it better than tying your hair up at night.I understand the sacrifice you will make with my idea but its only part of you that will get covered up!LOL.

I don't move much when I sleep, so I sleep with it down, tossed out across another pillow.
This is good to know if I ever reach your length. I'll probably modify it and drape my hair on the back of the bed... something along that line since I move a lot. Good to hear from you. :)
I generally sleep on my stomach. I've got these two big pillows I sort of wrap about myself to hold my head up off the bed. It's a bit difficult to explain...
It does mess with my beard, though. Shorter bearded men might not notice it, but as mine is about the same length as my scalp hair, let's just say looking in the mirror is an adventure.
In the military I learned to take sleep as it came, no matter where I might be. I've fallen asleep in chairs, under desks, between pipes, even on my feet. Of course, I didn't have to deal with hair back then...
How cool is that, I like to call your sleeping position "Superman flying." It is interesting to learn that it is possible to train myself how to sleep without moving a lot. I've had no luck with chairs though, I either bang the wall or fall off. hehehe
Seems like there is always some form of challenge in any position we sleep, or at least that's what I get from your post. But i'm glad you found a system that works for you.

rowie
Hello Rowie, I am impressed with your Absalom inspired "necklace".
I long ago in my early hair growth invested money in a pair of Satin Pillowcases. Sleeping on my side i wear my hair loose behind it. I have the ability not to turn too much whilst sleeping and have actually wake up for a few seconds during the night lift my hair up when changing position to my other side and within seconds fall asleep again. My hair is now long enough to get caught on my elbows if i am not careful when turning around during the night.
Cheers,
Duncan
Thanks Duncan! Yes it seems like the consensus in here is not a lot of people move in their sleep. I guess I'll have to start training myself not to move a lot in my sleep so that someday i'll be able to have a simple routine, as opposed to involving hair ties, braids, or buns. If I can't, then I have all this year to grow 6-8 inches which will bring me to waist territory give or take, and then I can just drape my hair to the back of my bed.
I too find hairs that drift in my armpit, and so here I am trying out different methods that is more comfortable than a top knot bun. At least I feel like I'm at the tail end of the awkward stage, but it seems like "awkward" repeats itself. Some people I know say classic length is another awkward stage since you are approaching beyond finger tip territory. I do however, finally get the addiction of growing out hair, and I can see why you'd like to grow down until terminal. For me, i'll see what length I'll feel comfortable in even though I expressed in here that my goal is classic length.
cheers,
rowie
P.S my pillow case is satin in the picture. I love it so much, that maybe someday i'll invest in satin covers.
