Hi mlhh! i'm having a little bit of problem here. hope all of you can help. i have hair as in the picture below but as it's an awkward length, i always have trouble with my bangs especially when i'm doing any works that requires me to look down and up, because it's very annoying that they're getting in my eyes. what am i suppose to do? (p/s : i'm targetting my hair to be at least chin length and i'm gonna wear my hair in a one-length chin length bob hair, so a cut is not an option). thank you :)
Hi Ahseng,
Looking good! I wish I had your hair texture (I know the grass is always greener on the other side). You can try to wear a bandanna whenever you are trying to get some work down. The nice thing about bandannas is you can roll it into a head band and tie it around your head to keep the bangs from going to the front of your face. Or the you can go to a pharmacy like Walgreens and buy those nylon stretchable head bands. Another Idea is you can use organic aloe vera gel or commercial gels to sleek your hair back.
Once your reach bob length you can finally tie your hair into a ponytail.
happy growing,
rowie
I know what you mean, Rowie... us guys with thick, coarse hair always look at these guys with amazing straight hair wish we had the same, hehehe
Awesome hair man, just use a hairband/bandana for the time being, you will be at high ponytail phase in no time!
Right! :) these people with straight hair have it easy. They don't have to worry about weather conditions like heat humidity factors that can make hair more wavy or curly, for me it's poof and fluff. Lol. Not to mention I'm assuming they don't have to worry about frizz. What I'm so jealous is that straight haired people can use 100 percent boar bristle brushes, and I feel like I don't get the same benefits using just a nylon brush for thick hair. I know I can still use that brush just by sectioning my hair, but that is a lot of work for thick and sometimes bushy hair depending on the weather conditions. Ok I better stop with my rant. But I'm just sayin!
All I have to do is look at Trolleypup, Duncan, Jason and all of us with similar hair texture to remind myself that it is at the longer lengths that our hair will look majestic and not plain... No offense to straight haired people, I'm just envious. ;-)
Hi rowie,
Yes, you better stop with your rant. Hehe. I am in fact envious of your hair! I just love the color and thickness you have at that length! I found your photos on the LHC after you did a treatment and man, that looked awesome! But yes, the grass is always greener on the other side. I sometimes get so damn frustrated with my funky colored hair. But then again at least my hair is still there! Have a great weekend my friend!
Ted
Hi Ted,
Thanks for my LHC compliments. I'm so embarassed that you have come upon that picture. hehehe I guess because MLHH is so different from the LHC and so you'll see a different "me" in that community just cause my audience their are mostly women. But I'm glad you are on the LHC as well, feel free to add me on there or i'll add you. I hope you'll try the original SMT recipe cause it really works as you've seen with my first experience with it. MLHH is still good for male support since we are no longer a minority in this forum, which is really nice.
take care my friend,
rowie
Takes one to know one, eh Rowie? hehehe....
I've always idealized the long, silky smooth, straight and dark indian (as in native american) hair. That, and the fine, blonde and straight Scandiavian hair I see all over here in Norway. But the time comes when one sees that we have to deal with and grow to love what we have, and if it's puffy, volume-filled, thich and wavy hair we have, well... thank god I ain't going bald quite yet, right? :D
Love the hair you got!
Definitely, My friend! Definitely!
Hi Raul,
Don't worry, Raul. Your hair in the older pics when it was long looked fabulous! I would be willing to bet that a lot of people with straight hair would rather have wavy or curly hair! Take care and have a great weekend my friend!
Ted
Thanks Ted!
Even though I can't really see I am excited to deal with the extreme curling on the bottom when the hair is finally at shoulder length, at the same time, I miss those days, and AM excited for it, you know what I mean? ;)
And yeah, the grass is ALWAYS greener on the other side, I guess... and hey, as you so nicely put it, it could've always been worse! Let us be glad we HAVE out hair at all! Not everybody is that lucky.
Hi Raul,
Did your hair only curl at the very bottom even when it was long? I can't really tell because of the wonderful dark color your hair has. Your hair appears straight on the top. Either way, I think your hair is awesome looking! Yes, thank goodness we have hair! Even though mine seems to look like three different colors! (Gray, brown, reddish) Bleh!
Ted
Hi Ted,
Well, I remember my hair growing wavy on top, curly on bottom, If that makes any sense. With each inch grown, the wavy part would seem straighter, yet the bottom curls remained the same. I even remember back when I simply cut my ponytail after almost 3 years growth in order to see if my bob would be straight, and it definitely wasn't. The tips of my hair will curl up either way.
As for the color... Used to be dark brown. Now it's mostly dark brown with a good deal of silver in between. I can already see my qurstions of suggested haircolor here in a year or two :P
Here is a picture which shows what I mean with the curling.
Please ignore the awful cheap bleaching.
You have some nice hair.
Thanks, but that pic is around 6 years old... Working on it though :)
Hi Raul,
That's very interesting. I guess hair just does what it's going to do no matter what. I am so curious what mine's going to do as it gets longer. Whatever it does, I am going to go with the flow(no pun intended!):) I just am getting so anxious to get to mid-back length. There's a guy that I know at my dialysis clinic that has wonderful black hair down to his waist. He and I are both on dialysis and I just love his hair. It was down past his waist, but he said it got tangled really bad. So he had to cut out the bad tangles. He told me he has been growing it longer than 10 years. He serves as my inspiration 3 times per week.
Your hair looks nice in the picture. The bleaching actually looks cool. You're just an overall cool dude I say! Take care my friend! On a side note, I wanted to tell you I just acquired a stamp album which covers Scandinavia-Finland. I am still trying to figure out the different relationships between the countries in this area. It is very interesting.
Ted
You said it, buddy! At the end of the day, hair is going to do EXACTLY what it wants! Hehe
Thank you, I think you too are an outstanding nice guy and am even more impressed with your spirit and great positive outlook on things considering the illness you are facing! One of my best friends whom I meg way back when we both went to university together in order to become preschool-teachers, suffers from a kidney malfunction (If that is the correct term, English is my 3rd language), and has been fighting the good fight for a few years now. You are a fighter and an inspiration, my friend :)
As for Scansinavia, it's a wonderful place, with good, humble and down to earth people and amazing scenery! Been living here for almost 8 years now and I love this place! :)
Beer's on me If I ever get to Texas!
Hi Raul,
Thanks for the nice reply, bud! I don't really get down or depressed with my kidney disease. I consider it to be a bump in the road of my life. I get bored sitting at dialysis for 4 hours at a time, but it gives me much time to reflect on how thankful I am. Sometimes I think people don't realize how delicate life really can be. At least I used to be that way. I feel good most of the time and have a wonderful team at the dialysis center. Life is good and will always be good. Because I will make it that way.
I really like the stamps from Scandinavia. I would love to visit there someday and check out the beautiful scenery. Just imagine how much better that scenery would look with you and I with long hair amongst it! If you ever get to Texas I will have to buy you a Lone Star beer. It's the national beer of Texas!
Ted
Awesome attitude towards life, buddy! I will definitely take you up on that offer, and offer you a cold Ringnes the day you and your wife get here to Norway :)
Am actually thinking of making a trip to Los Angeles next year, seeing as I've always dreamed of visiting the states, and my girl having lived in LA back in the day :)
Hi Raul,
Thanks for the nice reply, Sir! I don't have much time in my life for bad attitudes. Instead I prefer to have what I call "attitudes of gratitude"! I appreciate the offer of a cold beer! Never tried that one. I think you would enjoy LA. I lived there when I was younger and it was nice. There are many things to do there. Hope you get to the sates soon my friend!
Ted
Yep. I wore bandanas a lot during that stage. Never really rolled it up into a headband. Just a typical bandana style. Some of my friends called me Steve The Pirate for a while. XD
Another thing I did was just comb all my hair straight back. Surprisingly it actually looked pretty good. Although my hair is pretty thick and tends to stay put for the most part (no gel required) I don't know if your hair would behave the same way.
But yeah, hats and bandanas will be your best friend while working on things.
Best of luck to you man. Your hair looks good for being in the awkward stage. Definitely don't try trimming it. If you just let it grow you'll be surprised how quickly you grow out of the awkward stage. Then you can put it in a ponytail or tuck it behind your ears which I do a lot.
Peace,
Steve
thanks! :D i just cannot wait to let my bangs grow and then i can tuck them behind my ears or maybe use small hair pins behind my ears to hold them in place :D
Hi ahseng,
Thank you for posting your awesomme pic and welcome to the MLHH! I think your hair looks fantastic even though you say it's at an awkward length. If I was going for the style you want, I would avoid all cutting/trims whatsoever. I just think that would be the easiest/most economical method to attain allone length hair. When I hit the target length, I would then get it cut how I wanted. I would ask never2long because he has a very nice bob haircut. I wish you much success in reaching your goal length! Have a great weekend, my friend!
Ted
thanks! :) well, as hair grows, after i have my hair at chin length bob, i'll maybe grow my hair to have one-length shoulder length bob hair. but that still quite a long way to go. but as for chin length bob hair, isn't it too feminine for a guy?
Dude, if you're gonna be growing out your hair you've gotta stop thinking in terms of femininity/masculinity. Hair is hair, and gender has nothing to do with it. The real question is, do YOU like how it looks? Because your opinion is the only one that really matters.
Totally agree here, buddy. I wish more people managed to see things so subjectively.
Hi ahseng,
Well Septet beat me to it. But I agree with what he said. You need to grow your hair how YOU like it. I think you would look awesomwe with a bob haircut! And no, it's not too feminine for a guy. My Mother-in-law calls my hair scraggly since I started growing it out. She asked me when I was going to cut it. I told her when she stopped coloring her gray hair I would cut mine. I said this because I know for certain she will not stop coloring her hair. So, now she knows I don't care about her opinion of my hair. End of story. Please keep growing your wonderful hair! I look forward to your future updates my friend!
Ted
thanks a lot :D i also hope that there won't be much obstacle in my next journey of growing long hair because fyi, i had also tried growing my hair longer before this and some had achieved quite long for me personally (longer than now, but still not reaching one length bob hair) but because of certain obstacles before, such as college rules, working rules, etc, i had to cut my hair. but my instinct said to keep on regrowing it again and again. i'll post more photos to show the next remarkable growth. thanks again :)
Personally, I wouldn't do so as a question of utility. It's easier to tie back something that's longer in the back than something that is the same size all the way around. It has to be shoulder length more or less in order to be easily tied back (and stay that way.)
Also, bear with it a bit more -- after about another three months or so you can tie your top hair back in a half tail.
Personally I wore either sunglasses, or a hat for 6 months, till it went past that stage and I could tuck it behind my ears :)
