Hi my fellow MLHHers,
As I haven't grown my hair long enough to really tell, I am wondering if you guys want to guess what my hair will do. Do you think my waves will get stretched out or stay basically the same at mid- back length. The last time I grew it out in this picture I still had many layers throughout I think. I am curious what my hair will look like at all one length. I would be interested in any and all opinions. Thanks guys!
Ted
Here is the front view. This was taken after roughly 2 years of growth if I remember correctly. I have no good explanation for cutting and sure wish I hadn't cut it. I apologize for posting these pics again, but I think it kind of helps keep me inspired. Have a great weekend guys!
Ted
Heya Ted!
First off, I think it's great posting some old pictures with longer hair, since it makes for a great motivator for yourself to want to keep at it, getting back there, and even surpassing that length! :)
Now, I am no expert, but I would think that the longer your hair gets, the straighter the top part will become because of the weight of the hair itself. Could be wrong though, wouldn't be the first time! Hehehe.
Looked great, and will look even better this time! Keep at it, bud! :) have a great weekend yourself!
Hi Ted,
I can't wait until your hair gets long again. I think you look better with longhair and you truly are meant to be a longhair individual. It's really difficult to predict the behavior of your hair type because of so many factors (although I like how my hair surprises me sometimes like my last treatment);
1) weather factors with humidity (if you live in an area that have it during the summer or other times as well) will drastically change the wave pattern and frizz or fluff factor.
2) if you are an LHC member then you'll know that different treatments will have different effects on people on their own unique head of hair because of ingredients you use. (e.g. Emollients like Shea butter with the effect to raise the cuticles of the hair, EO's, protein,etc..)
3) Updos and hairstyles will change the texture of your hair until you wash it or get your hair wet again. I know I can get different braid waves by the different sizes or types of braids I do to my hair. The smaller th braid the smaller the waves and this logic works the same for bigger braids with the waves increasing in size. Different types of buns will also change your texture until you wash or get your hair wet again. If I do a cinnabun I'll get curls but if I do a nautilus bun I'll get loose relaxes waves or more straighter smooth looking hairs. If you covered your pigtails with hair bands or bind the full length of each you'll get straighter hair (this a a technique called ribbon binding or hair binding to get the hairs to b more sleek and straight without using heat).
As you can see, I could go on with so many factors. What I mention I would say applies more to people with wavy hair textures 2a-2c range and maybe 3a (I'm speaking in experience for this type because I am in the 2a-2c range depending on the condition, weather and factors I've mentioned). Of course other textures will have different factors.
Best,
rowie
What is an LHC?
I don't know if we are allowed to advertise other forums here, but it stands for "Long Hair Community" or known as "The long hair community." I've seen it in two shorter versions "LHC" or "TLHC"
Just do a search in google. I'm not sure i'm allowed to post a direct link to that forum.
their main slogan is "We are not here to decorate your world." That is supposed to be the motto over there. :)
Hi rowie,
I really appreciate your informative reply! Thanks for thinking I look better with longhair! And I can't wait until it gets longer either! When I was younger I had longer than normal hair. Then I went in the military and started wearing the standard issue men's cut for a while. So now I am ready to grow my hair and see what happens with it. I have a suspicion it is going to look better than what I am expecting. I hope I end up with curls/waves only at the ends when it gets to say mid-back. I like the way long hair looks with waves only at the bottom. But, we shall see. Take care my friend with the awesome hair!
Ted
I have no clue what your hair will do. I will mention that when
I wash with shampoo and conditioner my hair straight but when
I wash with only conditioner my hair has a bit of a wave.
For you utlimately the best way to find out is to let your hair grow. I looks fantastic now.
Hi LHIA,
Thanks for the kind words! I also experience what you do with shampoo and conditioner. You are correct about letting it grow to find out what it will look like. I am hoping that the waves are only at the very ends. Not sure though. Take care and have a great weekend my friend!
Ted
Hi LHIA,
Dammit, I forgot to mention that I have always admired your hair and believe it resembles mine both in texture and color. I have referred to your photo in the directory on more than one occasion for inspiration. Thanks for that!
Ted
Your hair is very similar to mine, it will probably straighten out in the top and have some slight waves through the length.
Hi Vincent,
I would be perfectly happy if my hair looked like yours! Your hair has the perfect combination of straight with waves. As I said in my other post earlier, you are a big inspiration for me. Are you growing your wonderful hair again? I sure hope so! Take care and have a great weekend my friend!
Ted
Hi Ted,
I saw your previous post about being an inspiration. It's great I can inspire people to grow their hair :)
Unfortunately for everyone over here I've got short hair atm and I'm not planning to grow it. But when I feel the urge to grow it again I will share my progress of course.
Hi Duncan,
I would agree with that. If I can only achieve the awesomeness he has. i have looked at his progress pics many times. He has wonderfully thick hair. Have a great weekend and thanks for the reply my friend!
Ted
P.S. Looking forward to your next update!
Hi rowie,
Yes, I agree with you about this. Joao David has exceptional hair. I just can't wait to get to mid-back length. At least that is my first goal. Take care.
Ted
And I do agree that your hair looks similar to mine when it was that lenght!
I have it all one lenght right now but the ends are quite thin, so if you were to trim your ends blunt now it would look diferent I guess...
Lovely waves you have! ;)
Happy growing! =)
Hi Joao David,
Thanks so much for your very nice comments!:) I would be very happy if I my hair looks anthing close to yours! Your hair has always been a big inspiration to me since it looks similar to mine. I often look at your progress pictures for inspiration. I am going to just keep growing it and see what happens. I appreciate the comment about my waves:) But sometimes they get me frustrated. Hope you have a great rest of the weekend my inspirational friend!:)
Ted
You, sir, are LEGENDARY.
Nice to hear from you :)
--Val
Hi Val,
I definitely agree! And I am glad I have similar hair that the LEGEND has! Keep up the great work Joao David!
Ted
I bow down to thee hair god!
Haha you guys are so cool, thank you! =D
I remember very well the first time I posted here and how I felt about growing my hair. Payed off so much! Guys never give up on your goals =)
I'm truely flattered I can be of help and inspire people =) I truely am ^^ Thank you guys and happy growing!
Good Morning Joao David,
Thank you for all of the inspiration you give us! You really do have lovely hair and I thoroughly enjoy your website! Please have a wonderful week my friend!
Ted
Along with your website, a huge thanks for your "Late 2012" video update... it was real great to see a recent update from you :) ! You have great hair and should show it off a little more ^_^ (I think).....
Sincerely,
Eric
One of the best things about growing your hair long is to see what
your hair does in the journey. I started growing my hair long
in 1964 and now in 2013 I still love having long hair. Chopping off my hair would be like chopping off an arm or leg.
I'll go out on a limb here and predict that your hair will look fantastic no matter what it does. Long hair always looks better than short hair.
Hi LHIA,
I appreciate your kind words and I will be happy with my hair whatever it looks like. I am pretty sure once I can grow out all of the short layers it should look smoother. It looks like your hair is all one length and that's what I need to get to. It is fun seeing the different phases of growth that's for sure. I do believe chopping off your hair would be a serious proposition. I can't stand people who want to tell me what to do with my hair. But when I try to tell them what to do they get all bent out of shape. To h*ll with that!
Ted
Your hair has a rich tone and a beautiful texture. It will look marvelous as it continues growing. Perhaps the waves will stretch... or not. Immaterial, though as it will contnue to look astounding.
Hi Rktect,
I really appreciate your kind words! The texture seems to have improved since I started shampooing less and rinsing with cold water right before I get out of the shower. You are correct about the waves being immaterial. I am enjoying the journey and will continue to regardless of what my hair does. I just love getting funny looks from various people! Long locks forever! Thanks again and have a wonderful weekend my friend! By the way, your hair is looking fabulous!
Ted
your hair looks like mine did when i grew it , as it grows long your waves will stretch somewhat and your hair will get straight. looks nice keep it going.
Hi gabriel,
I am not sure my hair will get completely straight, but whatever it does I will be happy with it. My waves don't appear to really shrink that much when my hair is drying. I really appreciate your kind words my friend! I shall keep it going and can't wait to get to at least mid-back length! Have a great rest of the weekend my friend!
Ted
Hi Ted,
Your hair looks outstanding in this photo. My thoughts are that your hair will look similar in texture as it grows longer, and without the layers that you mention are presnt in this photo, it will be even thicker. With the increased length, the waves may "stretch out" to some extent, but there will always be at least some waviness. Keep up the good work with the growing!
Keep it growing,
David
Hello David,
Thanks a bunch for the response! I kind of hope the waves stretch out to be barely noticeable. I would like to have soft waves. I keep thinking I would like pin straight hair, but I may not be happy with it. One thing I do know: with this board's help, I shall keep up the good work growing! Hope you have a great rest of the weekend my friend!
Ted
-------------------------------
This is difficult to predict, Ted. Throughout life our hair changes, for many of us. If your hair is sufficiently long enough, (waist length) the waves will straighten out to some degree up near your head due to gravity.
Only time will tell for sure. You will just have to keep growing it to find out.
Scott
Hi Scott,
I appreciate the reply. Needless to say, you have served as a major inspiration to me. I am anxious to find out what happens. I have heard of people with straight hair ending up with more curly hair as it got longer. And also vice versa. So, I guess I will just have to be patient and find out. Probably some of the waves will tend to get flatter with length. Hope you have a great rest of the weekend my inspirational friend!
Ted
One thing for sure--you've got the thickness a lot of us would really appreciate having! It's gonna look excellent whether wavy or not. Like a lot of people said, looks like a waiting game to know for sure.
Steve
Hi Steve,
Thanks a bunch for your kind words! I really get frustrated with the thickness sometimes. You are more than likely correct about many people wanting more thickness. I personally wish I had your color that's for sure! I have always admired your hair and like to see your pics. Yes, the waiting game is the hard part. But, it is kind of fun to see what eventually happens. Hope you have a great evening my friend!
Ted
I'm sure gravity will flatten out some of the waves. I have similar waviness, and that has been the experience for me. Hair ties and braids tend to temporarily "perm" my hair with different patterns, too.
Great looking head o hair, Ted!
- Oren
Good Morning Oren,
I thank you for your kind words! I really admire your hair's color and thickness. I enjoy visiting your page and looking at your progress pics. Very much inspiring for me. Whatever my hair wants to do, I will be happy with it. I just can't wait to feel it brushing on my back! I will probably try to wear it down and flowing whenever possible. Hopefully it won't tangle too much. my friend at dialysis had to cut off about 14 inches because of terrible tangles and knotting. Here's hoping your week is awesome my friend! I'm going to dialysis today.
Ted
Thanks Ted! I keep my hair braided or in ties most of the time. At 3 feet, tangles and knots are inevitable. My beard is usually in two braids. Finger-combing with a dot of oil on the fingertips (Jojoba or whatever) is super helpful for avoiding tangles. Likewise, you have a great week too.
- Oren
Hi Ted,
Don't know how to answer your question about predicting what your hair will look like in the future but based on its current state you have a bright "hair future" ahead of you my friend:)Hoping all is well with you. Cheers!
Mârk
Good Morning Mark,
Thanks for the kind words! I certainly hope I can get to at least mid-back length with nice even thickness down to the ends. I wish my hair was more straight like yours, but I will settle for what I have:) My philosophy with hair care is to keep it simple. Seems like when I oversimplify things it doesn't look right to me. Here's hoping you have a wonderful week my friend! Gotta go to dialysis today.
Ted
Hi Ted,
My guess is is that it will continue as thick and wavy as it is :) . Quite impressive hair :o ! Heck, before you know it, it might be at classy classic length ;D ~.....
Enjoy ^^ !
Sincerely,
Eric
Hi Eric,
Thank you so much for your very nice reply! It would be nice if it stays thick all the way down to mid-back length. I am not really worried whether it straightens or stays wavy. I suspect at some point I will have to trim a little off to keep a nice thick hemline. I'm pretty sure my ends will start to thin out at some point. But thank goodness I have plenty of time to think about that! Classic length-what a dream! But you never know! Have a great week my friend!
Ted
P.S. I'm really liking your avatar pic!
