I hope I am not breaking any forum rules by posting this sort of non-current pictures again, but these serve as a huge motivation for me, and I feel it's fun to share with you guys what I've got to expect :) Please let me know If otherwise.
So... First picture is from the summer of 2007, I believe... And one of my vert first meetings with farm life here in the frozen north ;)
Chilling at a church, just taking in the moment... There's something extremely relaxing and tranquil about churches for me, even If I am an atheist. Must be my introvert side which loves the majestic peacefullness :)
Hi Raul,
I enjoy the tranquility of Churches and Graveyards too. I think a key attraction of these kind of places is the time out factor from the often stressful pressure cooker and the hustle of everyday life.
Like all of your photographs and it is good to see other member's interests other then the hair side of things.
Cheers,
Duncan
Hi Duncan,
I completely underetasjen where you're coming from with this. In our day to day life, there are so many people, noises, movement and action, that I find churches to be a good balance to the hassle. Love the deep quiteness, the dim lights, and even the ancient smell. Guess I'm strande Løkke that :)
And I totally agree with you- great getting to know eachother better, besides our love for long hair!
Thanks for your kind words, brother!
Hi Raul,
I find it fascinating looking at old pictures of our members, back in the day,and comparing therm to what they look like today.Interesting the way people age for better or worse I suppose.I have mixed feelings about my old pics compared to what I look like today. In particular I like pics I have of myself when in my 30s:)Hair was much blonder then even though my current hair is dyed with henna:)Anyway here is a vintage pic of me back in the 90s.Cheers
Mârk
Hi Mârk,
This is a real cool picture of you. You sort of remind of Kevin Bacon when he had "blond-ish" hair in Footloose. I do have to say I like your hair better now, so much longer and vibrant. :)
take care,
rowie
Hi rowie,
Thanks for you comments as I do love my hennaed hair very much too:) Still looking back I do like the way my hair looked in this pic.Imagine if it was butt length though!Heaven:) LOL
Mârk
Hi Mark,
I just love this pic! can you say Steve Clark from Def Leppard! I thought you were him for a minute there!
Ha ha Ted! Yea I wish I looked that good but thanks for the comparison just the same:)Cheers my friend.
Mârk
I agree it´s alot of fun looking at ourselves and the people around us and compare to how we once were, see growth and change...
Really cool picture of you, btw! Defeinitely looked like a rockstar in that picture!
Hi Raul,
Well I guess the guitar helps that rock star appearance;)I agree I do enjoy sifting though mu=y old photos when I'm in the mood.Cheers my friend.

Sometimes when I want to meditate I have an urge to visit a church even though I'm not a practicing Catholic anymore. The best part I love about the Church is the smell inside, especially Catholic churches. There is something mystical or magical about the smell, for me, it makes me wonder how the Churches smell like during Columbus time or in the early history of Spain, it must smell similar or even better with the plants they used back then.
It´s funny cause I know exactly what you mean! Even though I am the least religiously believing person you will probably ever meet (complete and passionate atheist here), there simply is something about entering an old church or cathedral.. the smell, the light, an aura I can´t explain... love it!
Aight, had to join you on this sleekin' the hair back style. Wassup! :-P
[/IMG]
couldn't find the hair tie color you used so I used a scrunchie. Hey i'm at home so it's ok to be comfy (plus scrunchies I find are better then regular hair ties, only problem is they can only be used at home). :)
peace out,
rowie
Awesome! And really really close to the texture of my hair, I can tell, if if yours is thicker!
Btw, screw society and their opinions of that is manly and what is not. A real man can wear his Scrunchie with pride! ;)
Just a silly pic of me, but it shows my hair type a bit better than other pics. Sure gets better with some length and weight, I think ;)
Hi Raul,
I really enjoyed seeing these pics! Your hair needs to be longer! i can't wait to see it when it's longer. I agree about our other interests besides long hair. I, myself, am a passionate postage stamp collector. I will post some pics here shortly.
Ted
Thank you, Ted! Sure is nice with some old pics to make the time go faster, as I know you know yourslef ;)
Back of my head is already starting curling up, so it´s good to be reminded that this soon to be afro is going to settle down after a while, hehe.
Hey Raul,
Nice picture of your hair all sleeked out. These silly pictures are fun to look at. Thanks for sharing them.
best,
raul
Hey Rowie!
I´m glad you are enjoying these silly old pics! I have very few pics with long hair after so many hard disk formats, and I think it´s fun to see and show the for motivation, even if they were never meant to be shown publicly, just silly pics I usually took myself.
I agree with Duncan that its nice to know about other aspects of
members lives. I was raised in the farm/ranch life (and am
still living it). Where is this "frozen north" of which you speak? Are you going for longer hair than in the past?
Hei MG!
I am definitiely not born and raides on the farm, but I spent 4 years playing a farmer :) sure is something extremely pleasing to the soul in endless green fields, towering mountains and blue rivers and lakes :)
By "frozen north" I meant Norway, up here in northern europe. We have a climate which is close to the one in Canada, and it sure gets cold here in the winter, let me tell you ;)
Regarding my hair, my plan keeps changing the more I think about it, it seems.
From a shoulder length goal, to an armpit length goal to then perhaps classic length as a goal? Time will tell :) but I definitiely want it longer than I had it back in the day :)
Raul your hair in the pic is beautiful, great looking head of hair, glad you are growing it long again, just beautiful.
Tom(Hairboy)
Hei Tom,
Thanks for the kind words, I really appreciate it!
God knows I always had a love-hate relationship with my hair- as in when it does what I want, I feel like a 1000000 bucks, but when it doesn't, I feel like crap, hehe.
Guess that is the case for most people who care for their hair :)
This is a cool pic of you holding a lamb. I've always wanted to hold one of these creatures. It looks so friendly and laid back. Good to see you enjoying the moment. The closest I got to a lamb was when I last visited Peru when I was on vacation a month ago. I've seen some very obedient to their master, and here I was assuming lambs were not that intelligent. Great picture of your hair as well, soon you'll be sleeking it back. I like doing this style cause sleeking hair I find eliminates frizz for me. Thanks for sharing this.
best,
rowie
Heya Rowie!
Funny you should mention sleeking back the hair with gel, as I have always wondered what is it that makes it completely change it´s texture the day AFTER I´ve slept with it slicked back. Having rather coarse and wavy hair yourself, I am sure you know what I mean. It completely turns into very managable, good looking, easy to brush thick hair. I wonder why :)
Thanks for the compliments!
Back in the day I worked at that farm together with my then father in law, helping with the sheep, the cows and horses. Lots of work for a city boy, but quite giving. Animals are very thankful and friendly one you gain their trust :)
I love seeing the older pictures. No wonder you want your mane back so badly! It's nice to see a preview of what awaits you on your regrowth journey.
You live in a beautiful area! Do you participate in any winter sports with all the snow you must get?
Thanks, Jason! Fun seeing how my hair used to behave back in the day, and I can only hope that I can grow it the same this time around, even if it´s definitely a bit grayer this time around! hehe.
I live in south-eastern Norway, in the city of Fredrikstad, which is Norway´s 4th biggest city. Not as much snow here during the winters as the rest of the country, but we sure do get enough snow, seeing as winter lasts about 5-6 months with temps as low as -20c (convert them to that silly F yourself, eh? ;))
As for wintersports, I am a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioner, at least when my previously broken back allows it, so not much playing in the snow besides the day to day playing in the snow with 3-4 year olds, as part of being a preschool teacher ;)
I suck at winter sports, seeing as I grew up in the middle east,, not so much ice and snow in Israel, so I aint very delicate when on ice, hehe.
I do see on your Facebook, however, that your corner of the states has been experiencing lots of snow lately! Looks like you and the family are having a blast!
Hi Raul,
Here is a pic of one of my other interests. My wonderful parakeets. I wouldn't be without them.
Hey, I think my girlfriend´s cat just started salivating looking at that picture! Hehehe... nah, just busting your balls, cute birdies! More of a cat person here, always been one :)
The Frozen north? How far up are you?
I'm in Texas. Hardly the frozen North! J/K! Hehe
And here is another interest of mine. A page from my Mexico stamp album.
Dammit. Let's try this again!
That's cool! I also have a stamp collection, but I haven't kept up with it in 10 years. Thanks for sharing this. Now i'll have to look at my stamp book. You enabler you!!!
-rowie
What a great collection, Ted! So you actually collect them by country? have you visited many of these countries yourself? :)
Hi Raul,
Thanks buddy! I actually collect many different areas. However, I have been really enjoying collecting British Africa lately. Unfotunately I have visited none of the countries myself. I visit them vicariously through my collection:) Here is a pic of my albums. Unfortunately I have a long way to go to fill them up:) They are what keep me going since I am unable to work right now. You wouldn't believe how long I spend sometimes trying to identify just one stamp. Some of the colors are very hard to see the watermark on the back.
Ted
Hi Ted,
I too have a great passion for books collecting old books in many fields. Here's a photo of some of my Australiana collection books from the 1920's onwards.
Duncan
Here's what I like to collect from the 1920's:
Hi J.M.M.
I dig your old time telephone. I think older things have more character and were built to endure better.
I collect antiquarian books mostly from 1880's onwards. I have also built up a collection of coins and stamps years ago, but my big passion is old time books in early dustwrappers.
I have about a dozen books from the 19th century in dustwrapper the earliest one is an American published book from 1878.
I also have a collection of books on the theme of long hair too.
cheers,
Duncan
Hi Duncan,
I am definitely liking your book collection! I like to read books on electronics and technical subjects. Incidentally I have an Australia stamp album. However, I haven't made much progress on it. My favorite stamps are the very early Queen Victoria stamps. These stamps are absolutely beautiful in my opinion. I will have to try to post a picture later. Have a great day my friend!
Ted
Hi Ted,
I used to collect stamps many years ago as a young boy between the ages of 7- 14. Later I started to collect Victorian and early Australian coins. But my greatest passion in collecting is old vintage books on Australiana, History, Biography, and a diverse range of other subjects. I am a big fan of small US publisher Arkham house who introduced the wider public to the pulp horror fiction HP Lovecraft.
I will inherit my English grandfather's stamp albums and in it there are some Penny Black stamps which I think were the very first stamps that came out around 1840.
Stamps have greatly dropped in price and now very affordable for the ordinary collectors. Good luck and happy hunting!
Cheers,
Duncan
Hi Duncan,
That's pretty interesting about the types of books you collect. I have to see if I can find out what the Victorian coins look like. I have never collected those. You are quite fortunate to be able to inherit a nice British stamp collection. I am jealous:) The Penny Blacks are lovely stamps aren't they? You are correct about the stamp prices and such. I mainly collect for fun. When you start collecting for investment, it is no longer a hobby. It becomes a business. Here are a few of my early Victoria stamps. These are my favorites.
I love those 19th-century postage stamps. I inherited a large collection of early postage stamps from my grandmother - worldwide stamps from 1840 (several penny blacks, twopenny blues, Mulready envelope, etc.) onwards and nothing later than 1910. It included most of the 19th-century classics.
I may still have it somewhere (if the stuff in storage is okay) but I haven't looked at it in years. I imagine its value is pretty low nowadays but it was probably quite desirable in my grandmother's day.
You've piqued my interest again. Those early stamps are really charming.
Damon

Do you collect coins too? That's my business.
Hi J.M.M.,
I used to collect coins, but gave up that to pursue stamp collecting full time. I still love coins, however. My favorite coins are the Walking Liberty halves and the 2-1/2 dollar gold indians. Oh, and the St. Gaudens coins are lovely also.
Ted
I love the things people collect - stamps, coins, books, telephones. They provide a fascinating way of exploring history and the world about us.
I used to collect ancient lamps and created a website to display my collection (link below). Click on the Highlights link on that page for a quick preview. And yes, all the lamps are perfectly genuine. I'm the guy that dealers contact to identify and vet their stock but it's actually very easy to spot fakes once you get the hang of it.
I still have the lamps but since my house was repossessed they are in storage and I haven't seen them for ages. :(

Hi Raul,
What an excellent set of photos, and you had great hair then, and it will look even better in the days to come, since I am sure you will be growing it longer than you had it then. Good luck with your future progress, and keep up the good luck with the growing!
Keep it growing,
David
Hi David,
I appreciate the kind words, and am definitely going to grow it longer this time around! :)
Hello again!
Adding a 4th pic which I've just found on an old drive... My hair is definitely colored black in order to cover some of the old highlights, but it's a rare pic with my hair down (again, 2007).
Good stuff Raul! I am loving all these old photos! Take care, bud!
Ted
